Depends on the school district. Growing up my district did it younger->older, my partner’s did it the reverse. I think it’s considered my progressive to do older kids later since they tend to go to bed later.

Intel (and similar fab companies as well) is famous for even treating it’s phds as menial process engineers. When I graduated the only Intel fab jobs I was qualified for were in Indonesia or some other SE Asian country, and descriptions we

CNSE class of 2017. The usual career progression of people I talked to was: get a phd, work 12 hour shifts (including nights), be underpaid because you “are not an expert yet”, be fired after 2 years because the company abruptly changed tec

The last time I looked at marketplace plans (in my state ymv). I couldn’t find a single one that had good enough coverage for this to be worth it. The person I was looking for hits their out of pocket max every year though, so it just depen

I don’t think Meta or Google are doing that for the most part. Yes there is a small pay cut if you move away but if they said you could be fully remote then they have honored that. And I don’t think Tesla or Apple ever advertised that roles

Absolutely. You could just literally stop showing up one day, it is the company’s problem at that point. 2 weeks notice is expected, and giving less is considered a bit of a betrayal, but it’s perfectly legal. As much as like the idea of ha

It is arbitrary. But he worked really slow. And it stood out to me that someone who claimed to have been doing this for years wouldn’t have muscle memory yet. It was one of the things that made me think he had lied on his resume, but I didn

That they legitimately have no idea how to write a computer program. My first job was at a company which had a poor interview process. Hire fast fire fast right? 1. One programmer spent nine month trying to implement a simple Java app that

Yes it is true. Basically the formula for your taxes are (appraised home value / total appraised value of all houses in the town) * budget of the town. The market does absolutely take it in effect, like I said, towns with lower taxes s

I hope that is what happens. So far only a few companies are giving up fully on pay being linked to COL. Even so, flexible work (1-2 days in office a week) is currently revitalizing parts of New York as people move twice as far from the off

That is not true. Property taxes are based on relative property values within a region such as a county or school district. Here in NY, appraisals are done at the county level and then that determines the amount you pay to the school distri

My understanding is that some stablecoin projects do that. The issue is greed, it’s too tempting to invest the money in something riskier and keep all of the returns. When you lose the money you have nothing to defend the peg with.

They usually run down to the floor in my experience, and are generally much nicer in general. I wish NYC would do paid bathrooms instead of just having no public bathrooms.

The other thing that is wrong about this post, that I haven’t seen anyone mention, is that jobs like be a plumber also require constant upskilling to remain competitive. My plumber learned how to install ductless heat pumps, and now that is

400A is an absurd number. I live in the northeast have a heated pool, electric water heater, and am putting in heat pumps and it all runs off a 200A. 100A is the standard hookup in my area. I have no idea what this person is doing (are they

Stocks also don’t have a “true” value. Their price is driven entirely by supply and demand, which in turn is weakly anchored by investors doing fundamental valuations on the stock (there is more demand for an underpriced stock). The issue

According to Wikipedia 54-74 white farmers have been killed in South Africa in the past 5 years. Compared to the annual murder rate of 20,000 per year that seems negligible. How is this comparable to apartheid at all? Also I would hardly ca
