I think that emigrating killed any hoarding tendencies I may have had. I went to live in another country with two suitcases as my possessions, and left everything else behind. Although scary, I don't miss any of those things and it was

The region of Skåne in Sweden has a similar initiative, although not as cheap: a "summer ticket" valid for 3 months that costs ~70 EUR and includes any form of travel in the region. Similar offers exist in the other regions of Swe

> By the way, has anyone ever seen spameri@tiscali.it in the logs? It shows up almost on a weekly basis as RCPT TO address from literally all over the world. Yes, I see it all the time in my logs.

Yes. Imagine that you had a fast-forward button that changed the time per frame from 41.7ms to 40ms. This is what a cinema-to-PAL conversion does. It's a bit weird in the sense that everything is sped up and faster than normal. In the

It is even worse in Portuguese; there is only a two letter difference: Suécia (Sweden) vs Suíça (Switzerland) — or three letters depending on your perspective, but in Portuguese the c with cedilla is not considered to be a different letter

In English you mean. In Portuguese the name is still customarily "Pequim". To illustrate, go to the Beijing page in English Wikipedia and change it to Portuguese. Check what's the title of the page. That's also the canon

Economics is not a subject that I can say that I know anything about, so this is my completely subjective interpretation. I think the problem was that Brazil got into a positive feedback loop, and we had what Wikipedia calls "inertial

There was an official index, named "correção monetária" (literally: "monetary correction"), which was basically tracking the inflation index. Everybody's salary and the amount of money in the savings accounts had to

Some personal anecdotes. I grew up during the hyperinflation days in Brazil (80s, early 90s): talking about 60% a month. People would get their salary and run to the supermarket and buy everything they needed for the month, because if they

In a former job, because I was an employee for many years, the notice period the company had to give me was 6 months. My notice period in case I wanted to quit was still 1 month (the legal minimum).

Maybe you got a "coordination number" instead of a "person number"? You only get the latter if you are expected to live in the country for longer than a year. The former "confuses" a lot of people and websites,

Curiously, when getting the Swedish citizenship you get a certificate via mail and that's it. No ceremony required, although you're welcome to attend one after the fact. Each municipality has to arrange at least one per year. This

One thing which is important to clarify is that in Brazil, once you take your vacation, it gets "spent" during the whole period that you are off, including weekends and eventual holidays. In Europe (or at least a good part of it)
