Where's a good place to start with Rust? Which domains is it particularly good in ?

I made a wonderful little Google scraper in Clojure once. I was surprised to see I got IP blocked after only 20 or so searches.

I've been here for the entire journey, but no one can summarize it quite like Rich. And I bet he could write twice that just on nurturing a community - He spend hours and hours on IRC in the early days, coaching, teaching, correcting a

Impressive port. I still remember back in the day, when setting a background image in Windows resulted in a big performance hit.

More? In terms of explanation I only read the numbers/graphs and not his comments, but most of the important graphs (incl. those mentioned other places in this thread) are extrapolations that go far beyond what his data supports. He is

You are correct on all points, thanks for letting me know about the changed proposal.

In Denmark we increased our testing 10-fold and found 300% more people infected. Our response to that increase has been to shut down the country completely for 2 weeks and expand our governments right to act: Forced entry into private prope

And conversely: If you're not nice I'll never do business with you. But I do take his point: If someone is active attempting to manipulate you using 'pretend' friendship, then that is a flag. Not red, yellow perhaps.

Its a very impressive show of one-liners, I love how expressive the language is. I wonder however, how easy it would be to extend compared to something like Lisp. If these idioms for parsing html weren't built-in, what would a Rebol im

I'd be careful trying to gauge levels of respect based on a rhyme - And I'd be even more careful trying to assess the deathrate this early in the process.

What a trooper. Well written, very interesting journey and very forgivable mistakes for a startup. Hope this takes off big time

Not too young no, but I wasnt impressed back then either :)

Its a matter of taste I guess, but Ive always found all of Googles UI design to be incredibly ugly. I use a bunch of them every day from Ads to Gmail and its all just bland and looks half baked. Am I alone in this?

Corona's deathrate only exceeds 1% if you're older than 50 year sold IIRC. Dont know what the deathrate is for being a Hong Kong Protestor, but I doubt its much better.

Only thing interesting about this virus is 1) It fully stopped all the PR coverage of the Hong Kong protests, and 2) We learned how poorly we are prepared for a pandemic

Thats last few sentences make no sense. The argument is that uptake is stunted by the JVM's slow startup time, making it unsuitable for commandline utils or desktop apps. However thats easily fixed which was never more hillariously sta

It can be like this, or it can be worse. I have a friend who was interviewed, screened and xrayed before finally getting the job and a sweet contract. Shows up on his first day of work and there's no relevant team for him to join, so h

Just a quick shout out to Microsoft (no affiliation) - Their Sculpt keyboard has taken all the discomfort out of 15hour coding sessions. If you're a professional developer, get one.

I also made an example of this years ago in clojurescript. Porting this from a java desktop app to the browser took less than 5 minutes http://bestinclass.dk/da/posts/brians-brain-optimized-clojur...

AI is still thrown, investors seem to like it. React is performant now, so if I was you I'd take a good hard look at Clojurescript / Reagent / Porting those to React-Native. And welcome back, good to hear your health problems

I love how this guy thinks. "Why does this font flash on pageload?" and then procedes a 5-page write up on the intricacies of fonts, caches and everything in between. Great write-up!
