Thanks for the info, that's interesting (I didn't know that). But it still seems like cheating :)

Someone writes to it. And if they write before the read threads are run (and never again), then this is not really equivalent to the complexity we imagine when we say complexity in the context of multi-threading.

If you don't copy it and don't wait on any synchronisation mechanisms, how do you protect the memory?

"clever compilers can reuse addresses of variables for as long as they are not written to" Still chewing on this, but it would immediately strike me that relying on this behaviour in a software application, for it to be performant

Very occasionally I do have to plug then unplug then plug back the magsafe connector in order to power up my 2015 macbook, however the magsafe design has saved my laptop from certain damage many, many, many times. Literally, the only reason

Or hit them where it hurts. Why don't you do what I did and put your money where your mouth is. Go back to using an old style text message only mobile like a nokia (other brands are available). It is such a joy to have a simple communi

Agreed. Going through that process right now with a tool I am developing. Its 4-5 iterations through various parts of the engine code. Each time, it takes less time and more importantly adds to the quality of the result. It does take longer

I used Dosbox to run a program to upload source code on old GE PLCs in order to covert to new systems. Couldn't have done it otherwise. Long live Dosbox!

I got a new TV last week. The problem with a preference for simple is that the best model bang/buck was a smart tv. I managed to crash it with only the remote controller last night.

In this case, maybe. But I am talking in general. In general we don't know who to believe, founder or employee. I would imagine there would be just as many unjustifiable disgruntled employees than there are unscrupulous founders. Ther

1 hour tasks! Sound like a recent working environment I was in where I witnessed a poor permanent employee driven to booking 10 mins to a task by this mentality from management down. Also, none of them spoke to each other due to the time-

I do completely empathise with the parent, but you also have to consider it from the other perspective. If those type of employers could get "named and shamed" based on someones verbal only , then it would be a dangerous society

"Two of those side by side would be perfect." When used in a discussion regarding the desirableness of the aspect ratio 4:3, 1:1 etc, I find this statement quite amusing :)

The way I look at it, it is difficult enough to do "1d" programming correctly. This is "2d" programming, in a sense - programming at multiple levels, if I understand correctly. I would absolutely hate to try to parse cod

I completely disagree for reasons I already said above. Meritocracy is the basis of life. Including evolution. Men are better at some things and women are better at some things. And you know what? That's fine by me. Eg. Imagine if I wa

I would argue that the kind of person with the skill to navigate into a position, is more likely than the person not, to be able to pick up things faster. So the fact that you may not hit the ground running does not matter so much as your a

Why is that bad? Jobs should be filled based on skill/knowledge. (The ability to learn is a skill too, one that means what you know currently matters less). I take slight offence to your statement. Why is being a woman relevant to anyt
