I thought this was an interesting perspective. I'm a big enthusiast about Elixir and I'm always curious to see how the die-hard Erlang people feel about it. Elixir makes me want to know more Erlang but I don't think I'll

Beyond the very subjective syntax, docs and whatnot I would say adoption. At this point there are a lot of Elixir libraries and frameworks that are built with Elixir and are quite popular that might not work from Erlang. Elixir is a steadil

Not the previous commenter. But enthusiastic :) I would recommend trying it and seeing how you like it. I've basically dropped Python which was my daily language in favor of Elixir. I find I get a higher top bound to what I can do, hig

As the author, I think you are right. It isn't stagnant. But it also isn't a good fit for me in the tradeoffs it makes. M1 has promising performance but intensifies my already painful dongle town situation. To me Apple are making

So there are a few ways to do interop with non-BEAM languages. Ports are the typical one for simpler things. You start an external command and talk to it via stdin/stdout. NIFs are potentially much faster and are traditionally in C. Bu

From my conversation with them on Elixir Mix I don't believe warm-up is the issue. In this case the JIT is simpler than that. But the BEAM VM isn't the quickest starter in the world.

I see plenty of new startups in Elixir and haven't had any real issue finding Elixir client work since I switched to it. Elixir is not nearly as ubiquitous as Ruby was and I don't think it will be. I don't think that's n

Dramatic fall was Nginx config bump and restart. Lost all those sweet idlers I'm sure. Hopefully it can go higher now with some luck but we might be past the peak. Really curious how far it can manage.

I think it started falling over around 450. I've been getting 500 on my Nginx for workers, so I bumped that but the resulting Nginx restart killed the count and it is currently at 217 as it has recovered but I probably lost tons of idl

The counter does go up and down a bit. I'll have to check the logs and see what that's about at some point. Mostly it comes back up on refresh.

Apparently HLS (HTTP Live Streaming) requires JS on every platform aside from Apple's. I was looking at that for streaming video + captions but since it requires JS to run it didn't really achieve what I wanted it to. Maybe you co

Is it that clear-cut? Is a nice friendly org that considers the options and picks something minimal and ostensibly ethical like Fathom or Plausible and then just uses that to keep track of how they are doing evil? Or is that not a third par

You can mostly track the interactions. Just the fact that CSS was loaded distinguishes the user from a lot of automated tracking. You should be able to track time spent on the page with CSS animations as well, up to a point, that's men

I'm sure this is already in use but maybe not as published because it is mostly a corner-case (non-JS users). Browsers have already had to implement lies in pseudo-classes, specifically :visited since it leaks too much data.

Definitely felt that while writing the post. So I don't plan to use this approach. Just like JS-based analytics I don't think most users would object heavily to someone trying to differentiate them from non-interactive bot traffic
