Chrome is pretty resource heavy and Teams might not need all of that. Eg It might not need the latest web APIs or even v8 at all. While it seems counterintuitive, I have read quite a few success stories of people moving from Electron to Qt

You guys are still missing my point that it’s not a TUI because non-text elements have been drawn to the frame buffer. This is actually a lot easier to do in DOS than it is in UNIX too by virtue of the fact that DOSs text mode isn’t a pseud

Electron is more than just V8 and in fact most of the UI elements (since we are talking about UI usage here) fall outside of V8. But it’s also worth noting that JavaScript isn’t as close to Java as you claim. Not only do the benchmarks post

It has bevels made up of 3 colours, so I can’t see how it’s pure text mode. It’s certainly text heavy so they could have drawn the GUI int a frame buffer and then just used text mode for screen updates. But that’s a little disingenuous from

Java was used long before Android. It was in feature phones, like from manufacturers like Sony Ericsson (and developers would write games and mapping software in it too).

A TUI is ostensibly just a command line application with an event loop and plenty of {ESC} characters being written to STDOUT. And I can assure you there are no shortage of Java applications that run headless.

I’m surprised you’re surprised. Electron runs like a dog on modern systems while Java has been used in enterprise applications since the 90s. They’re not even in the same league. But then there isn’t much out there that even comes close to

It’s an informal way some people write SQL if they’re developing a script. I’ve done it this way before because it was quicker to edit, and and remove lines. But it’s not a format I’d particularly like to share with others because it looks
