I don’t think biological realism was the key criteria in 90s computer games.

If you’re waiting until a few hundred thousand views before moderating a video then you’re already too late. And if you think ignoring millions of unpopular videos watched by thousands of people (in many cases, each) isn’t risky then you’ve

I’m management now and definitely an empathetic one. But there’s plenty of studies about the assumptions people make about their own capabilities https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dunning–Kruger_effect So the moment some

Advertiser have no less of an idea who watches videos on YT than they do on TV. Advertisers choose their slot on TV. They also choose their demographic on YouTube (it’s called “targeted advertising”). Hence why you’re more likely to get ad

This is true for how GMail became dominant but most video sharing platforms were already free before YouTube, and still are now. Sure there are some non-free services, but YouTube (even pre-Google) didn’t invent the free video hosting parad

Even in classical broadcasting in Europe there’s an element outside of the broadcasters control. In the U.K. we have a “watershed” where content gets more adult after 9PM. But kids can watch TV after then and still see adverts for alcohol.

I agree it sucks but again, I feel compelled to remind people who YTs customers are. Content creators benefit from YouTubes business model but they are neither YTs customers, employers nor even their intended users (ie the people watching t

There have been plenty of video platforms with a great mobile experience that have gone under. And I’d argue that YTs mobile app isn’t even that good. You can’t make technical argument for why something gains traction. Most people don’t cho

But this comes back to the point about who the customer is. YT are not harming his customers. They’re harming (from their perspective) those annoying expenses. I don’t think you can equate it to a business relationship because those same re

The problem we have is that popular content creators are the most susceptible to the problems caused by YTs moderation. Your solution only reinforces that problem since you’re excluding unpopular content creators. You’re also making the ass

I once read a quote from some movie exec that basically said studios turn to old content when the economy is weak because it is lower risk. I find this to be true from a few perspectives, it’s lower risk financially for the studio but it’s

How do you define “harm”? And who are YTs customers? The problem here is that “harm” is subjective and YTs customers (advertisers) are not the same as their users (viewers), who are also different from their content creators. I’m not defend

Strafing was in Wolf3D too. In fact I think it was intended as the core mechanic for defeating the Episode 1 boss.

> I suspect even at the time, the developers of Doom weren't used to strafing either, I don’t know if that’s fair. Doom had a timer in it and was built to have speed running in mind (even if that term hasn’t yet been coined).

That was intentional but it’s still a point about atmosphere and not game play. Doom 3 plays very different to Doom 1&2.

I got that. But the reason it looks different is because it’s literally different APIs drawing the widgets. You cannot “fix” those programs to use the same APIs without access to the source code. And clearly 3rd party desktop shells are not

That’s not a KDE thing, it’s a Qt and GTK thing. Those toolkits support themes and all you’re doing in KDE is specifying a two different themes (albeit named the same) that is visually similar. However if you look closer at the widgets you’

You cannot change that UI toolkit an existing application uses. Only change the theming if that toolkit supports theming, and change the desktop shell. This is true for Linux as well as Windows.
