Same in London. “Why it’s (almost) impossible to cool the tube” https://youtu.be/hQo6_GkITe0 Quite informative. At least with above ground water probably easier to dispel the heat . They also have issues in desalination pla

Sounds like the “file sealing” API combined with memfd handles that: https://lwn.net/Articles/593918/

It also assumes that everyone who can get a job, will get one. Which is not really true in most markets. I see statistics in Australia anywhere from 10-100 people searching for a job, per job vacancy: https://unemployedworkersuni

This video was crazy, making ethanol from Corn provides something like 1% of the power of the sun hitting the square meter of farm used for it. Meanwhile using tonnes of water, space, and other things. It's basically a terrible idea ov

This looks similar to the Zulip implementation which I sorely wish Mattermost had (since we use that at work)

Looks interesting, as someone in linux support having to remotely analyse logs rather than having a logstash/splunk/grafana/etc UI that I can use directly.. I am in need of tools like this. I will give it a run :) EDIT: I had

Yeah you really don’t notice 60Hz scrolling until you try 120Hz scrolling. It’s a bit like you didn’t notice Retina displays until you tried one then looked at a pre-retina display. It’s crazy how you adapt to perceive things once you see s

This looks really awesome, thanks! I think inline pretty-print of JSON/XML/YAML in a log entry.. plus histogram of date/time.. I do these things a lot using various grep/sort/uniq etc pipelines Wow!

Apple actually does this both with your iPhone battery and your AirPods but it’s automatic and you can’t ask to switch to that mode. I see it holding my AirPods at 80% overnight quite a bit. They call it “optimised battery charging”. I use

I've got 70,000 photos in my library, with AI search and recognition, all done on my device. Thanks Apple. In fairness it's not quite as good, but, it's good enough for the searches I've wanted to do so far and gets bett

This feature clearly needs to be a non-modal popup and just silently disables those features until you click to enable it. Makes much more sense.

A support contract from your distro of choice e.g. RedHat, Canonical (Ubuntu), SUSE, etc would potentially fill this void.

If you watch the plaid launch they apparently finally added waypoints (and self joked about how that took so long) and a redesign of the UI. But unclear which models that will integrate back to or when.

I often see "this person should be fired" etc in response to legitimate mistakes.. but that's massively undervaluing the mistake. There's a pretty good chance the person who made such a mistake is less likely to repeat i

The “mirrors” in this case are Microsoft run servers specifically for Microsoft made packages for Ubuntu. Rather than the actual Ubuntu mirrors for all Ubuntu packages.

I’m still using carbon/graphite/whisper. Despite being a MySQL expert I just got lost trying to write influxdb queries compared to the Grafana query editor for graphite. I really need to try and convert at some point.

This also used to happen with iOS only a few years ago but they improved iOS since to allow all the calibration tools to run without your passcode. Be good to know if they’ve since fixed Macs in the same way.

I mean ultimately SATA and NVMe are just an interconnect. The biggest difference is throughout. Yes there can be some minor latency or round trip gains in the protocol but throughout is the biggest difference.

Yep I know about that, but was more specifically interested in the case of not having to make such changes and having it just work (tm). Resource-wise having a 50,000 or 500,000 default ulimit wouldn't matter. But we find out here, it
