It was my understanding Amazon does in fact do this for most instance types, it's why the amount of RAM and other resources scales with CPU core count. There are exceptions though in the very small "burstable" etc instances,

Having an audio receiver and cranking the centre channel helped a lot for me. Turns out I’m also half deaf in one ear. Anyway I’d recommend both a centre channel with adjustable volume and a hearing test.

With backblaze B2 both of those are not an issue. So not sure.

I use rclone and Backblaze B2 for this. B2 used to be cheaper though not sure if that’s true with the new deep archive but it is much less fiddly and no crazy fees at restore time. Rclone is also multi threaded so goes much faster compared

PCIe provides standby power on 3.3v only. I can't find a specific number for "standby" but even not in standby it seems to be 1100mA @ 3.3v =~ 3.63W - so may be enough. You'd need a step-up to 5V for the CM4 though. Seem

The problem with that is for good performance reasons that checksum is typically on smaller blocks than the whole file. For example ZFS splits files into a maximum of “recordsize” (128K) by default and checksums each block. Not so likely wh

Next time you plan to buy an Apple product, check the macrumours buyers guide which estimates where in the product lifecycle it is and whether it’s a good time to buy it or not. https://buyersguide.macrumors.com/

ExFAT is not limited to a 4GB maximum file size. It just has more than 4GB in the file. I guess 4GB seemed like a reasonable limit when FAT32 was designed. Most likely FAT32 has a 32bit number for file size and ExFAT presumably has either a

I agree. That’s a huge investment for a product with a currently very low individual user price. I expect to see a rapid push to enterprise with individual users left behind and a lot of broken stuff along the way :/

I've always wanted some kind of curation of products that are obviously designed better than the rest (for better or worse). They often have a price tag but functionality to match. Of course, the required functionality is not the same

I always appreciate a bit of behind the scenes info you might otherwise see, as I'm sure many on HN would. Also with pricing, pricing transparency is a real PITA.

You can use linux capabilities to grand the CAP_NET_BIND_SERVICE privilege only. You can do this either by launchign with "capsh" and should also be able to configure a systemd service to do it. There seems some gotchas though so

For the standard 3x replicated setup, 3 nodes is the minimum for any kind of practical redundancy but you really want 4 so that after failure of 1 node all the data can be recovered onto the other 3 and still have failure resiliency. For er
