That's why we have super majority and other means to combat tyranny by majority. So how does one define the point at which taxation becomes immoral?

Shops have to accept the fact that shoplifting is going to cost them money. I'm not arguing that Facebook isn't allowed to try to stop adblocking. Only question is what means they're allowed to take. Just like security guard

In my opinion employers should listen to those complaints. Most likely the only way to increase my salary would be to swap jobs, which I'd rather not do, and I don't see it being good for my employer either. If there are millions

But advertising is already regulated, just like any other market. There is no ethics involved. Perhaps one day we (society) come to the conclusion that advertising, as a whole, is doing more harm than good and we decide to ban it entirely.

Writing this from a 2010 MBP. When I bought it PC laptops were just horrible beyond belief. Full of stickers and adware, creaky plastics, horrible touchpads and keyboards, etc. To this day it has worked perfect. Battery still has 89% capaci

Because those who have it did not create it in a vacuum. And after all, there is nothing but a mutual agreement that those who do not have won't take it from those who have, and that agreement includes whatever welfare said society has

Not Denmark, but I'm a software developer in Finland and the biggest difference between me and a full time McDonalds (if there were such a thing) employee would be that I drive a BMW and he a Toyota. We both could afford a house, lates

Wow, quite a statement. Lets compare to USA: Sweden has less suicide and less depression. Norway and Denmark rank higher in HDI. Pretty much all nordics rank better in Gini ratios. Norway has higher GDP and rest of the nordics are not far o

In Finland it's almost common knowledge that university is a poor guarantee for wealth. I think on average in a blue collar job you can earn more and have easier time finding one (doctors being probably the only exception).

I may be completely wrong on this one but isn't social-democracy a sort of compromise between socialism and capitalism? So I wouldn't call it entirely unrelated.

Noise is the main reason I'd like to leave the city to live in the country. To me it just feels insane how little of a concern this is to most people. Cities could be really nice places to live if they didn't allow cars in them, b

I admit that I'm not a typical car buyer. I have no car and no experience in buying cars. What I would like to do is go to a website, pick a new car with reasonable features and see a hard number what it's going to cost me per mon

Buying a new car is a nightmare. You start with a baseline model and think that's not too bad, tick some reasonable boxes and whoops, your car is now twice as expensive. Usually buying something is a pleasant experience but when it com

Don't know the details about US but around here government uses private contractors to build infrastructure. Using the unemployed would be competing against said contractors and make their employees unemployed instead.

Labor laws are just moving the risk from the employee to the employer. In an ideal world the employee would be compensated more for higher risk so nothing would change. But in the real world most employees won't realize that so we (sup

Key is how labor spends that newly acquired money. Will that spending actually create something productive or just rising property prices.

No, we would need to retrain them to do something that is valued. For which services/products do you think you're missing and would be ready to pay for if we were to retrain the unemployed?

A software dev living in Finland. From what I gather (by reading HN) I could easily get 10 times bigger salary in the US, buy a bigger house and a nicer car for less than I can here. But personally I care about neither. What I care about is
