After setting up server instances from scratch by hand multiple times over the years (and spending several hours each time), I finally bit the bullet and learned Ansible. I can now take a bare VM image on DO/AWS to a fully functioning

I think you found the root cause of your issue. We are social creatures. Without deep meaningful connections with our fellow humans, mental health will take a turn for the worse. 90% or more of the work out there to do is pretty damn hollow

You are correct that a lot of rooms are using off the shelf Arduinos, often with buttons/reed switches/RFID tags for inputs, hooked up to a relay + maglock for the output. Some of the higher end rooms will pay a little extra for P

I've been quite happy with http://clubhouse.io/ It's more or less Trello++, striking the right balance between simplicity and power.

PostgreSQL is hands down the way to go when you need a relational DB (which is 99% of the time). Some features to read up on: * COALESCE, CASE * Aggregate functions + GROUP BY + HAVING * Subqueries * The LEFT/RIGHT/INNER

You are presuming # of pivots correlates strongly with success. The idea being tried, and the team executing on it are probably much stronger predictors. If you are already in doubt enough to ask, it's probably time to move on.

I too ended up replacing all channels with a mutex or two in a small web socket relay server in Go, and things became 10x easier to reason about. I think part of the problem is the lack of usage/support for channels in the Go stdlib it

You seem overly concerned with Hype Driven Development. There's not a lot of new stuff coming out of these frameworks because of how mature they are. Both languages/frameworks are comparable. Your end product will not be very diff

I'm often wrong, but overall I think I'm a happier person not having my decisions be driven by other people, especially folks who paint a idyllic distorted image of themselves on social media. With that said I too have at least lo

Instead the really smart people write abstraction upon abstraction until they can achieve the level of cleverness they wanted in the first place. I'm not sure all that extra code is really that much better.

I've in a similar situation in the past. For me, the problem was ultimately boredom and lack of fulfillment. It was the prospect of doing the same thing all day every day with no end in sight, with no purpose other than paying bills. C
