If the goal is Google or Microsoft, then this is the correct answer. A solid foundation in algorithms and data structures is a strict necessity when applying to those places as a developer. Analysis of algorithms can be a bit intense, and a

Do you have any resources for learning cool advanced SQL like this? I've used CTEs in the past, just from reading about them in the documentation, but I feel like I'm only scratching the surface of what's possible out there.

You are right in that the Django ORM will always be relativly simple, but it does have some GROUP BY support: https://docs.djangoproject.com/en/1.7/topics/db/aggregation/...

I found Knockout to be a great middle ground for when "I can do this in jQuery, but it's gona be messy" and "I'm building a SPA". It hits the sweet spot between easy learning curve, abstraction, and interacting

I noticed the same flickering in PyCharm (Python flavored Intellij Idea). I hadn't realized it started after upgrading to Yosemite but it makes sense now. I had assumed it was caused by upgrading to PyCharm 4.0 from 3.x.

How much are you realistically looking to spend on the services of a developer? Without knowing this, it's impossible to recommend the best value for the buck.

Django and Rails are pretty much equivalent these days in just about every meaningful way. I've gone Django for no other reason than I much prefer Python over Ruby. This is not to say Ruby is a bad language, but I much prefer Python&#x

Quotas are not the answer... (I can't think of anything I've read recently that hinted as such) The answer is similar to the answer for problems that have been recently highlighted by the Ferguson catastrofuck. And that answer is

It should also be noted that node.js jobs are practically non-existent outside of the startup scene in tech heavy cities. Best to do market research for the area one actually resides in, at least until you have enough experience to do remot

It's not the new hotness, and not really sexy, but if you care about employability, it's hard not to recommend Java. Between enterprise backend web services, Android, and to a lesser extent desktop apps, there will be plenty of Ja
