Julia is incredibly fascinating for me as a language to observe, although I haven't got the time/patience to try it out yet. Its language design seems incredibly progressive and yet pragmatic: they've repopularized dynamic di

My response's more about the dynamic execution side of things (latency & memory bloat of Julia). Static compilation is a whole different topic, but I'm confident that it can be solved with existing LLVM infrastructure (because

You're right, done some more research and there seems to be an interpreter in the compiler: https://github.com/JuliaDebug/JuliaInterpreter.jl . It's only enabled by explicitly adding annotations in your code,

Yeah, though the solution for it basically seems to be "throw out all the previous code that was highly coupled with LLVM and actually write our own fast JIT compiler and interpreter from the ground up". It's possible, but pr

I don't think this is an inherent problem of having a compiled dynamic (in other words, JITted) language. Things like Javascript (V8) and Lua (LuaJIT) manages to have fast startup times while having exceptional performance in hot paths

Although the comment was written as a half-joke, it's an incredibly obtuse and specific South Korean reference that others might not know, and I thought it would be fun to post about it.

About Blender... I think the reason has more to do with the stagnation of animation/modelling tools since the monopoly of Autodesk has taken place. Maya seem to be getting more and more bloated throughout the years without any substant

Though from a few videos it's got an incredibly primitive UI that mainly uses the side buttons instead of the big touchscreen. The interface seems much more apt for a feature phone than a smartphone. (Though I realize there can be some

I think graphical fidelity can also be part of usability. Artists always seem to complain about things like waiting for baking lights to finish, shadows having weird artifacts, lighting not appearing naturally and have to resort to using ha

This has been repeatedly said throughout Godot’s development history, but there are several crucial reasons as why the team was motivated to create their own scripting language. From the FAQ ( https://docs.godotengine.org/en&

For me, the existence of a usable screen and keyboard is far more important than raw specs. (Maybe it's fine if you're the type of developer who always brings your HHKB and secondary portable monitor with you...)

It doesn't have a keyboard and a comfortably-large-enough screen though. You would be better off using a Chromebook with Crostini for less than that price.

It's using a custom AMD APU, so I estimate it would be probably a bit weaker than Ryzen 7 5700G's integrated GPU (1.6 TFLOPS advertised vs 2.1 TFLOPs for 5700G). Though the performance may get a lot worse if you're using it o
