I agree completely with your library statements. > I think one of the biggest mistakes in the life cycle of SML was premature specification. I disagree. There were some earlier Successor ML efforts ~10 years ago (see: http://s

I'll be very interested to see how this goes. In a former life, I worked on developer tools and as part of that we did some extensive on-site filming of experienced developers, in order to do some new product development (I think we us

Hey! I was the one running the build environment stuff in VS at the time. IIRC, CoreXT didn't handle some really oddball scenarios we had that involved self-hosted compilers and runtimes. e.g., rerunning the build with the compiler you

Is there a way to search by the status flags? It's now harder to see them since they're no longer in the same column, and I use the "has passed tests" filter frequently to check which PRs might need shepherding on Servo

Real-time transcription can be excellent for distributed meetings as well. We do this on some teams at Mozilla (e.g., Servo and Rust) for all of our group meetings, which allows people who either couldn't make it, don't dial in to

Zura, I doubt we will open a new batch of full-time positions for Servo before the start of Q4. That said, I'm always willing to see what I can find for candidates with an exceptional background!

This would be more useful to me (as a hiring manager) with something that encouraged better links to somebody's accounts / portfolio / etc. instead of just their usually-empty HN profile. e.g., I'm currently looking to c

I was very confused for a few minutes here, since Sparkle was the original name for Microsoft's visual design tool, now called Expression Blend ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Microsoft_Expression_Blend ).

My guess would be that it's an automated build / deploy system that required some addon installed to run, so they had to run `devenv /build` instead of using msbuild. Then they saw this behavior on one of their build machines

Ugh. That reset procedure did not play well with LastPass. I logged in (old password), hit change password (old password), then had LastPass generate a new password, which it handily saved over the old one in LastPass. Hit Save. And then th

Mozilla is _incredibly_ remote-friendly. I believe that less than 40% of our paid staff is in the traditional "US West Coast" timezone. For example, on Servo we have about a third of the team in the SF area, but then I'm in C

If you visit #servo on irc.mozilla.org, there is a "crowbot" that will dig up the github link if you reference a pr/issue number and will correct you if you link to an outdated web platform spec :-)

The basic result is that if you just CPS-convert a language without first-class continuations (so, no call-CC), all of that is interchangeable with SSA and any optimization written against one IR can be rewritten fairly mindlessly against t

For those who are curious why CPS is such a great compiler representation for implementing optimizations, it's because the passes require less analysis complexity. You only have to handle the "call" portion and don't hav

As bjz points out, my background is from CML, so my experience has biased me a bit towards synchronous send for same machine/process programming models and async for distributed models. But I tried to give them both a fair shake in the
