Haha, well pointed out. I'm clearly having trouble parsing today. "rm target; make" can work, but only if you're using a pattern for data pipelines where there is only one default set of downstream targets. If the one Makefile supports a ra

This is basically the case where you don't (or it's infeasible to) capture the dependences fully, so you want to rebuild everything from target onwards after some change. In that case: "rm target; make target"

That's exactly what "make -B mytarget" does... Are you thinking of a particular problematic scenario?

So make's default behaviour "make somefile.csv" is to build the whole tree of dependencies. To force rebuild of everything, run "make -B somefile.csv". It then assumes everything is out of date. To force rebuild of one step, just delete its

Make can certainly generate multiple outputs, and can trivially be coerced to redo any step you like. Provided you add your code as a dependency in the analysis, then it will happily redo only what's changed, giving you nice tight iteration

There's two main types of use cases: (1) geotagging actions you take on your computer, like git commits, for later analysis; and (2) writing software which varies its behaviour depending on your location, perhaps triggering useful events.

The inconsistent reads in replica sets is something we've come across with MySQL read slaves as well. I think it's a gotcha of that whole model of replication, rather than a MongoDB-specific issue.

The "lot less parking" will do wonders for urban landscapes. When I travel through cities (including my own) and land that could be used for parks or habitation swallowed up by parking space, it seems like an incredible waste.
