This is just wrong. I would question if you ever went on Myspace. Facebook figured out that using your real full name in an electronic social network had huge advantages in terms of connecting your real world social network. They killed Mys

Facebook wasn't just at the right place though. They figured out that people wanted to use their real names on social networks. I loved Myspace. I met so many cool people in my 20s in that 2-3 year window they had that I never would ha

I think it works exactly because you are not moving in a real car, the car is moving. With a physical wheel then just simulating vision makes it true virtual reality for car driving. Almost nothing else is like this though. Virtual reality

There is also a problem that is exemplified by VR chess or VR poker. Anyone who wants to play chess or poker online most likely already has without VR. Sitting across a virtual table with a virtual person with an annoying headset on to play

Already here. I am writing this on KDE Plasma. The amount of other people reading this on a linux desktop is 100% irrelevant to me.

I don't see why it matters. I think the Roland TB-303 is the best example of what is being talked about here. It was made by Roland to simulate bass guitars but spawned entire genres of dance music because of its unique sound.

Or you could just not go on twitter. The idea there is a mass movement of people saying other people tan too much is beyond delusional.

Spot on. Writing, music, painting, poetry, now video games. I think the entire idea is false anyway. There is surely a waiting list for a government job with a pension filling pot holes right now. The author of this article probably just li

Why pick on the states at this point. It is utterly absurd there is not more a push to legalize at the Federal level.

My monitors are awesome though and I don't have to wear a ridiculous headset. I am never wearing a VR headset all day to save space. The day this rolls out I am asking for an exception for real monitors. I honestly don't think thi

Obviously, but people will cherry pick evidence to rationalize what they already believe to be true and conflate this process with some kind objective falsifiable experiment in their head.

Totally agree. A backup camera actually has utility. I like the blind spot warning system quite a bit too. Most everything else is just technological kitsch. This isn't that new though. Stereo systems have had equalizers forever even t

Not to mention programming isn't a sport. I don't care who has the best paint brush technique. What is interesting is the art and how to creatively solve an interesting problem. There is no shortage of people who can masterfully p

I am an American but I know Mike Ward won his case but it had to go to the Supreme Court for a split decision. He was supposed to pay $42,000 in damages. The joke was in French and super distasteful about a disabled kid. I think as American

I feel like management has to have the emotional intelligence to separate who wants to talk about their favorite TV series for 30 minutes and who would prefer to just have one less meeting on their calendar. Having variability here is good

Me too. I have my alarm in another room next to the cup of tasty iced coffee so it doesn't even have to be warm.

Great response. It is so context specific. The worst is just going through the motions. Work on this useless project to say we worked on career development for the year and check off a box. Then at the start of the year start working on ano

Are you going to build in a random number generator then for self driving to add speed sometimes above the posted speed limit? Or a button to boost the speed above the state laws? It makes no sense when all you have to do is not use self dr

If you want to go over the speed limit then don't use self driving. If you increase the speed limit by 10mph, humans will just adjust up too. I do agree that interstate speed laws need to be updated. The most dangerous spot I drive on
