The trick to that question is whether that artist had a wealthy and influental patron. Poorly made art gets redefined as a "thought experiment" or "social commentary" all the time by a small closed circle of art snoobs.

I won't say they are doing it maliciously but rather most interviews are for finding good workers. Higher leadership positions rarely rely on interviews and those that have them tend to use them as a formality.

Is it strange at all? The more democratically elected the govt is the more likely it will act for their people's typically shorter term interest. The swiss are a pretty clear case study for this.
