I find it a category error to ask reason for a why do one thing over another. Our animal nature gives us motivation which we use reason to help. Not that it isn’t usually a benefit to fulfilling our motivations to have our reason finely hon

I think most experts were fascinated by the whole experiment as it is essentially gathering data on a subject we had theories on but no experiments. I used to work at a company where both the main data center and the main dev office were in

I do think that as more things become programmable and hence part of software, the odds that a given project is novel increases. If you maximize the Lisp/hacker/Dry approach, any new code should be novel; if something is just a re

I think it is a more productive tweak to thinking to understand beliefs as not being fully true or fully false than to believe that one can be purely rational in one’s actions or beliefs.

I hope you aren’t testing for equality with pi or e or rho or square root of two. One and zero and -zero might be special cases. If you are testing max(0, pi) also you will be sad sometimes. Especially tho if you are doing computation and t

Doesn't anyone have beliefs that are not modeled best by booleans? I intuitively like to use trivalent logic "true/false/not known" but the Bayesian reals from 0 to 1 is also pretty useful. Does one not continuall

The probability of a real number being exactly 14.7 is zero, so it is immaterial if you can represent hat particular real exactly, as long as the basic operations on the reals work as expected. Support for == between floats arguably should

There is science that uses more sig figs than tha, and for things like inverting matrices or calculating tails of distributions, you want every digit you can keep. Even just simulating dynamic systems, if you truncate, you alter your orbit

Maybe, but the ability to make some arbitrary program do some arbitrary thing is the exact experience that lead many of us to fall in love with computing. 10 FOR X = -5 TO 5 20 PRINT TAB(X X);" " 30 NEXT X wow, a parabola!
