Funny contrast to me. I finished getting my kids up into college using my "useful enough to others to be paid for it" software skills and immediately went back to grad school for math precisely because it is such a joyous activity

In the formalization of mathematics, things are built up structurally. Zero is the empty set. Natural numbers are sets that contain smaller natural numbers. Integers are pairs of natural numbers under an equivalence relation (a,b) ~ (c,d) i

I was sexually abused by a family member at young age. It certainly affected me in negative ways, and should be stopped, but it is also important to emphasize to current victims that being abused doesn't make you uniquely and shamefull

My understanding is that QFT is not axiomatized - it works but there's a bit of hand-waving at the level of actual proofs. There are people working on this, but currently physics is physics and maths is maths.

That is also true for creative people. Generating interesting ideas is one thing then filtering out impractical or unaesthetic ideas is also needed.

I would and sort of still do buy the text books as soon as I registered and make sure to read at least the first few chapters before class. Makes it easier to know what to take. It’s on, ask better questions, and remember it longer. I would
