I instantly have problem with anyone touting the opportunity costs related to an entirely made up number. 10 minutes off a fictional commute is not a convincing metric. How about instead we have say, line X needs $Y for modernizations after

I've been in situations like this. Being a "jerk" is a defense mechanism. If you are approachable then everyone brings their technical problems (personal and professional) to you. If you are unapproachable you stand a chance

I don't think "small web browser" can refer to anything built on Chromium. Maybe "unobtrusive" would be better.

The problem right now is the jobs aren't shifting. Chronic unemployment is the norm for young people and less educated older workers. We are automating WAY faster than new jobs can be created.

I switched to game development! F2P might be obnoxious but it's not going to take someone's job. That's not to say that there aren't ethical issues here. My boss wants to automate customer service operations with custome

It seems to me until we need a real conversation of the ethics of automation and how we can do it without destroying the lives of the workers we are displacing. A few years ago I made a vow to myself that I wouldn't work on software th

It's sad that my first reaction was "Looks like bootstrap." I would like a few more colors. Maybe you could add pantone support, that would make this super useful esp. for mobile!

This drives me nuts! I don't know why I should be motivated by YOUR mission! Especially when your mission is to make as much money as possible in an easily exploited niche you found!

The "Breakthrough" for AlphaGO was that Go is well mapped by a Monte Carlo tree search. Once they figured out it became a domain specific problem and totally irrelevant as a general AI breakthrough.

Oddly enough I find Apple's approach to AI more to my liking than Googles. When I do a voice query on Google and all of a sudden every ad on the device is related to what I just did, I feel abused. I think the confusion here is the dif

I think the rage is a bit over the top. I expected James Rolfe quotes... "Scrum is buffalo diarrhea!" I don't mind the blowback against Agile, it and TDD have both entered cargo cult territory and a lot of the stricter implem

I know! Finally! Of course I can't help but see that the message Google took away from Stagefright was that they needed to harden their media frameworks rather than needing OS level security updates for all devices.

Google knows that this is a developer conference right? I feel like I'm at CES. I don't care about any of their apps unless there is some really cool integrations I can do. Talk API's or this is just noise.

Why isn't this hangouts? Are they going to kill that too? I can't get onboard with any of these Google products because they drop them as soon as they have something "cooler"

I use the NDK a lot because you can kind of ignore the Android nonsense and structure your code properly. My approach is to have it build out the main activity then fire out into my app code. That code is beautifully MVC and for the most pa

I work on a very popular app in Latin America. That means we get to experience every single edge case in the eco system. My favorite quirk has been that for some reason I will never understand when an app goes into a full screen ad it can m

Q-BASIC. Just basic programming without any bloat or garbage. I feel sorry for kids now. Foisted on to Python or Java right away even the modern basics are bloated.

I agree. Android architecture is a mess. Activity life cycling is actually impossible. There are certain actions the OS takes that will cause crashes no matter how well architected the app is. My main quibble with Android is that since ever

Well, color me interested. I read the T&C and didn't run into anything that seemed obviously bad. Might as well start the process and see if I run into any red flags!

The currying was cool. I had to read the pull requests on that one and it seems that it was removed because it complicated language development. I'm hoping they bring it back in a modified more extensible way!

I gotta disagree with this one. Those operators have always been confusing and unnecessary. j = i++ being different from j = ++i alone is enough to convince me it's gotta go.

That was a fantastic talk, well worth the time. If I can summarize my takeaway it would be that Agile or agility is a holistic thought process to guide all your software decisions. The way people have implemented it is to have rigid guideli

All the permissions models are flawed. IMO Marshmallow actually makes it worse. They have permissions groups so, if you request access to Play Games accounts to reduce the login friction the app asks you for access to Contacts. When a user
