Whether you’re talking about The Crown as the queen, The Whitehouse as the executive branch, or the pen being mightier than the sword, metonymy is a common linguistic device that uses a part as a metaphor for the whole.

I learned about skiving when I started researching building a watercooled PC. Optimus is building some nice heatsinks/water blocks in Chicago. They’re using a micro CNC process for very fine fins in their cold plates, and mention some

Thanks for this! I didn’t even know it existed. I’ve been frustrated that I can’t add my kids to YT premium since their emails are at my custom domain hosted by g-suite. This feature is worth the hassle of setting up gmail accounts and figu

In 1904, G.K. Chesterton wrote a fun novel about 1984 London where the king was chosen by lottery called The Napoleon of Notting Hill. I picked it up after the 2016 election since that seemed like such an anomaly. There are some interesting

This is true. You had an IBM or an IBM compatible PC running DOS and then Windows. I was well aware of IBM at a young age.

I don’t mind it so much for Super Mario World. In the original, you could press the L or R shoulder buttons to scroll the view forward or back. This essentially brings both into view for wide screen.

Not just tiny cars, but scooters. I visited a friend in Beijing before the pandemic, and riding her scooter around town was the best way to travel. Cheap, faster than any alternative, and you can park it anywhere.

It’s largely not respected anymore. If you are building a React app it’s not really like a webpage. It’s more like an app. JavaScript and a modern browser are expected, and most users are going to have them. However, if you are building a s

I really recommend checking out The Gaming Historian on YouTube. He did a video on the Game Genie nine years ago. His newer videos are more polished, but even back then it was well done. https://youtu.be/PCvIZ80RIhE
