That's actually a good question. Why? We have nanometets, picometers, centimeters, decimeters, kilometers, why not megameters?

I disagree, as a native speaker of a language where "bilion" means 10^12, it's clear to me that "billion" means 10^9 when used in English text. So I disagree that is ambiguous. But maybe that's wiem that way to

As far as I know, database often does query caching. So it doesn't have to recompile the query all the time. On the other hand, query plan may depend on the specific parameters - the engine may produce a different plan for a query for

I think that's because most people consider this requires unjustified. Do you think similarly about expanding acronyms like SSH, CLI, HTTP, HN, FYI, USD, US, EU, PKI? Why/why not?

>is ordering via ssh secure?# you bet it is. arguably more secure than your browser. ssh incorporates encryption and authentication via a process called public key cryptography. if that doesn’t sound secure we don’t know what does. Stron

This makes me think, it would be nice if there was an easy built-in way to expose information about a process using the filesystem. Something like "cat /proc/$pid/fs/current_track" to get a name of a current so

Would be nice to have something that integrates with 7z - it supports a lot of weird archive types, including "weird" ones I care about (for example PE files, better known as ".exe files").

It's a witty response, and I think on some level even agree with you. But it's also a pretty shallow think to say. It doesn't adress the point of the article and it doesn't say "why".

Because programmers like to have something like DATA_DIR - a writable directory managed by the program. Thinking about multiple storage locations is effort and most users don't care about this too much anyway

I'm probably in a tiny minority, but I just flat out disable third party fonts. Everything looks equally good to me and I save bandwidth. The only expression are image fonts, which render as squares - I share the author's frustrat
