See also resent thread about Zappo where there was lots of talk about customer service. I think a solution would be that designers and engineers should have as part of their job to sit in customer service to support their products. Preferab

Here is a video about replacing the screen. Also see video description for where a screen can (could?) be bought. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Oa630UVaWp0 Edit: Seems to be for a different version

Art as a big polluter and waste of resources seem like a stretch. Biggest polluters are military and agriculture. I don't think art would make it on that list.

I work in Smalltalk for hobby projects and it's mostly a fun experience. Very powerful debugging and introspection makes it easy to take on stuff I would not consider in any other system.

Yes, it's silly to be gate keeping like this, with some purist fantasy. If OP friend like to role play as a engineer from 1981, that is cool. But he has to realize that that is not everybody's goal.

Unix shell scripting is an obtuse practice that is really hard to discover. That short shell script is built on hours of hard learned Unix experience that would probably be at least 8 pages long, if explained thorough.

I'm not sure if this is a typo, but you need a certain speed to be able to steer the ship. Going too slow downstream is like stalling a airplane, you lose control over it.

I have a Yamaha Motif Rack synth, from around 2004. It has software to aid in the parameter settings if you want to make a new sound. It is a advanced synth and quite complicated. The tiny screen and knobs on the front panel is very fiddly

I really like using Smalltalk (Squeak) for personal programming and small projects. It's very reflective and it is easy once you know the tools to learn more about how the system works and how to do stuff. I have not found any similar
