apologies for sounding flippant, but my opinion can be summarised as follows: TensorFlow is Python/C++. Nice! Beam is Python/Java. Not nice.

Having any kind of confidence in the peer review system is, in my opinion, horribly misplaced. Particularly with regard to Nature, the following website might interest you: http://retractionwatch.com/category/by-journal

To answer your first question, I actually don't think it's a big deal. It may become important if you end up having a ton of models running in production that need to be maintained and further developed, but in general for new app

Your comments are mostly valid, but I disagree about Keras. Although it's marvellous for patching something together quickly, if you want to branch out at all then it quickly becomes an absolute mess. Far better, in my view, is to work

I'm a LastPass Premium subscriber, and I would be interested in trialling a move to BitWarden for myself and my family. However, the lack of a Safari plugin is a showstopper for me, and it seems that plans to develop one are on hold in

It's worth mentioning that I come to HN explicitly searching for a mix of interesting reading in my field(s) and Ancient Greek. I think it's super important for me as a mathematician working in technology to try and understand wha

I'd be surprised if there are more than a handful, but I often wonder the same thing about posts about systems programming and, well, basically anything that mentions Rust in the title. For my own part, I find this kind of post fairly

A personal anecdote to support your point: The first company I worked for in Europe was a well-established ML company that had been doing predictive analytics long (10+ years) before the current fad. Founded by a former professor from CERN,

As someone familiar with the field, you likely know this already, but the similarities between the Karpathy post from 2015 and this work from OpenAI is likely because Karpathy is a founder and lead researcher at OpenAI.

Based on personal experience and media reports (but no hard data), I would say yes, it is failing at peak times. In particular, the trains on the commuter lines to and from London.

The O'Reilly blog was unknown to me until today. On first glance, it seems that they have lots of interesting articles in my areas of interest (ML, data science, data governance). Thanks for the tip!

There is precisely one person who can be productive with Penrose notation, and that's Roger Penrose. You should see him do it, though - very impressive.

In Germany, you should also be careful with §203 StGB-relevant data [0]. There is no really good legal solution to this. The so-called "Gehilfern-Lösung" has never been tested in court, and is not possible with AWS in any event.
