Facebook is definitely more in the straight up designed addiction game, but Google isn't far away in my mind. Google's main business is advertising, through Search. To do this, they have to keep you coming back to Google and at th

You can pretty easily download Wikipedia and send it over on a flash drive. I feel like having a local copy of it would alleviate a lot of my personal use for internet all the time. There are a lot of other static websites that I browse and

The problem is that no FPGA-driven system will come close to beating out a modern CPU, so people will have very little incentive to actually use it because it will probably be more expensive and definitely slower.

I personally haven't tried MoviePass, but I know a few people who have and weren't scammed. It took a few weeks for their cards to come in the mail (not sure if they were paying during that time or not), but they eventually did ge

Is it because quantum entangled particles propagate their changes at the speed of light? Making the invention work, just not any faster than normal methods?

Except that he wasn't actively calculating more digits of pi, some part of his brain had remembered the digits and was playing them back. Maybe some sub-conscious part memorized it, but it was still memorization.

I'm not a big fan of how they calculate load time. Usually you'll start interacting with the website before every single external resource loads (comments, Facebook integration, tracking scripts, etc.). Also, they should be compar

I use a bunch of providers for different use cases: My photos are all stored in iCloud because of the great integration between all my Apple devices. I have 2TB free from an old job but will have to switch to the 50gb for $0.99/month w

The problem is that Apple doesn't want to have a "B team" on anything, they'd rather have an A team or no team. This is just a personal observation, and I don't really agree with it as it means I sometimes have to g

Sorry, I was referring to the program as a whole. I get why it did the optimization for that one function in particular, but in this case, it can be proven that the function call will result in undefined behavior and (in my opinion, not nec

I'm not saying add any runtime checking, but if undefined behavior can be proven at compile time, then it should flag that instead of doing something weird.

Hmm, the first example kind of bugs me. I get why they are doing it, but I feel like there should be a better solution. Instead of cramming as much optimization into undefined behavior as you can, maybe don't allow the undefined behavi

I feel like any app with recurring fees that high should really be flagged for a manual review by Apple, even just a human opening the app to see what it is. It seems like so many bogus apps with subscriptions are appearing nowadays.

Am I the only one who likes Malloy? The Avis/Hertz thing was incredibly anachronistic and hard to believe for someone who can't remember what the US capital was, but I didn't mind because it was hilarious. However, the LeMarr

The CRTs looked better because there was more "bleed" from pixel to pixel. A great example I found to describe it was if you were in the iOS ecosystem when the iPhone 4 came out, every outdated iOS app looked terrible. The 4 had t
