I think this is a pretty solid acquisition by google. I have doubts that the tech from North will be able to match the tech in the "upcoming" apple ar glasses, but things will probably eventually match up, like Android and iOS.

I hate this perspective. Aging and imminent death aren't valuable. This is a view popularized by "deathists" and those paralyzed by fear of death.

This is ridiculous. Your code will just have to support multiple architectures, which is very easy with modern languages and tooling.

That code in the comment above isn't actually rust. It's a lisp, I believe. In Rust, you'd write something more like: fn f(x: &[i32]) -> bool { match x { [x, y, _] if x == y => true, _

There's no way to distribute really lightweight thunks of arbitrary code. Maybe WASM can work here, especially if you shape the standard APIs in the right way. You'd also need built-in support in tooling and compilers, where you c

I haven't had time to read the book yet, but the web version of it is just so beautifully displayed. So, kudos for that :)

Musk's most recent estimate of the eventual cost per kg on starship was 10 usd/kg. He may be considered an unreliable source at this point, however.

Yeah, I wish wasm had more support for pure programming. Of course, state can be constrained, but it's pretty heavyweight.

It's not an actual "kernel". It's an application that hides all hardware specifics from applications that run inside it. Or something like that, I have no idea.

I think the many of the ideas behind Urbit are exciting, but I don’t think it’s putting itself in a good position. It’s just too weird. If it used WebAssembly instead of some small, functional bytecode, you’d lose some beauty perhaps, but i

I wish they hadn't picked go. Go isn't a bad language really, but it's a huge pain to integrate a go library into an app written in another language.

Wow, this is really interesting. I bet that there's a way of doing this robustly by streaming wasm modules instead of full executables to every server in the cluster.

Yes, compute shaders will enable slightly more ability to do computations that are less parallel than just fragment shaders can handle.

I think that wasm potentially has a great future for cross-platform binaries. Eventually, hopefully, the same code that can run in a browser will be able to run natively on linux or macos without recompiling. A major blocker for this is tha

This will be a lot more useful if we get terminal access as well, even if it's just to a sandbox or container and the ability to link compiled libraries in other languages to our code in this version of xcode.

I was in FIRST in high-school. It was a great experience and we were on the alliance that won the Detroit competition in 2018, so that made it even better.

Are you calling the software the "matter compiler" or is a "matter compiler"/"nanofactory" an eventual end goal of the project?
