You're living my dream. I've been working on a side project all year but struggle to find the energy and build momentum while working a full time job. Did you quit work to start this, or did you manage to work around your day job?

All you can do is make it harder (not impossible, just harder) to openly mention race as a factor in hiring. Three people may decide independently to base their hiring decision on the race of a candidate without ever bringing it up. Hell th

One thing I don't like, which was present in this article, is throwing up our hands and saying "but there's nothing we can do". Of course there is. Nobody says that about racial discrimination. You think people aren&#x

Yeap. I'm in my 30s and I've seen enough writing on the wall to know that there is no way in hell I should be relying on being a software developer to feed me in my 50s or beyond. We can talk about how it shouldn't happen or

That's the law in a lot of countries, including here, but I've been asked it anyway. What are you going to do about it, beyond secretly recording your interviews then suing?

I got stitched at a private clinic for about 1/10th that here. I'm in NZ so salaries are a bit lower but cost of living a bit higher. $7500 seems well out of whack. What kind of gold were the stitches made of!? Surely it could be

Dental isn't really indicative of "how expensive health care is" though. I'm in good health so I don't have much personal data - dentistry is about the only fully privatized healthcare I access.

How expensive is health care in the US? IE, in my country dentistry is fully private, and it costs about 100 USD for a teeth cleaning. How much is that in America?

This is what I ended up doing. Don't laugh, but I spent about two weekends furiously learning docker for a side project, only to replace it with a shell script of about 100 lines. I'm sure containers have valid use cases for large

Something of an open secret to be honest, how it now arrogates to pretend to still be "Left"-leaning but is nothing of the sort I can always spot a political extremist when they claim that something clearly left-wing is actually

Your post is much, much more indicative of the demographics of HN and what sort of a bubble people live in than the grandparent.

Can we get over the menstruation stigma already? I don't want to see images alluding to pissing or shitting. Do I have a piss and shit stigma?

What makes the US so special that they can go flip a business operating in the Ukraine? It looks like the man behind it was arrested while holidaying in Greece - a US ally.

More than 12 people from your team in a scrum is also highly illegal under IRB rules - though this is allowed in a maul.

It seems to me that if you're an IC in a large team, you are a fairly replaceable cog. Of course a large percentage of the cogs of any machine fly off at the same time, you're in trouble. But I don't think one IC matters much

If it were up to me we'd derive all our tax from things that actually effect the commons: land usage, water usage, pollution, waste. Taxing income or capital gains in the first place was a mistake.

Do they still have a NO LOL policy? (For those that don't know, #python used to have a bot that would sternly warn you if your messages contained "lol". Ten years later I still think it's unintentionally funny.)
