I want to double on kirinan's question. I'm not quite in his shoes; I've had a few clients, I've got a couple theoretically lined up but the answers I keep hearing are "we really want to hire you but we have to get the funding approved", w

I worked in an office where we got the work done... and we did. And then we were given more tasks. And more tasks. To the point that there was no way to get everything done on a deadline. At some point I said to myself, I could pull an al

You might want to check out http://codereview.stackexchange.com/ For a while I was following it, but I found I rarely have the time to review everyone's code.

While it is still high compared to zero in Texas, you get to deduct how much you paid in federal taxes from the state taxes, making that 9% sting a little less. Funny that you say cost of living is higher than in Austin, I felt Oregon has r

You are having two different people evaluating different situations. Having the same person evaluate the situations would make for a different picture. Put $500000 in to a new business: This may make lots of money, or you may lose it all.

There are numerous counter examples of open source software that successfully competes or dominates the competition. While Ubuntu may be a victim of its philosophy, the little you say does not convince me when Mozilla, Apache, WordPress, a

The greatest factor for longevity in an individual is genetics. For a population not so much. Lots of people say if you remove the US, the greatest correlation (not causation and all that, yes yes) to longevity is health care spending. Pi
