I'd love to see a formal study on how often Americans "go out" for food rather than buy from a grocery and cook it themselves. In Scandinavia, the cost difference between eating-in and going-out is much, much larger than her

There's a bar in Santa Cruz that gives you an RFID bracelet hooked up to your CC, and you pour however much you want from >30 taps on the wall. Then you pay your per-ounce tab upon exit. Only beer and wine but a cool idea. Here&#

Autodesk had this at their yearly conference a few years ago. It's pretty neat, but of course only one of the arms was working when I tried to get a drink!

Depends on where - we basically live in SJ (Campbell) and the prices are still near 1M for a decent place. A friend just bought a >1M house in South SJ, far away from just about everything except Netflix. Midtown SJ is cheaper, and hope

That's what's crazy to me, that a 1BR in Sunnyvale is probably the same as a 1BR in Park Slope, Brooklyn. Me and my partner are paying the same amount for a 1BR in Campbell as my buddy pays for a high-rise, swanky 1BR in downtown

Some of us have always lived here, and find it hard to move away from friends/family. I'm in that camp at the moment, but if I ever want to own a 'middle class' house, my partner and I will undoubtedly move (she teaches

Born and raised in the South Bay and it's really hard for me to justify spending even 1M on a house in Sunnyvale. Wages are higher, yes, but it's still a huge shock. I imagine if you grew up elsewhere in the USA it's even m

I think I might disagree on 'maintainable' depending on your definition. For instance, ever since picking up TypeScript my projects have been much easier to maintain. I'm sure the same would apply with a templating framework

As long as there's an example on the ballot, it should avoid confusion. Ex: "Rank candidates in order of preference. E.g., #1 - most preferred, #2 - second-most preferred..." The counting system (to me) is more complicated

The disclaimer on the site says it's in pre-alpha. I assume that the people trying this out will be people who currently make things with Aurelia.

Nice project. What are you hoping to add in the future? Our team works on goal directed design as well, but at the moment it's less of an interactive optimization tool and more of an involved job running process a la Optistruct. One

Once you learn how one framework works, it becomes much easier to try out other ones. Most of them adopt similar patterns. Sort of like programming in general :) If I had a recommendation, it would be to just stick to one for a little whi

Vue has been my favorite view framework/library/whatever experience in JS thus far. Good docs, sensible supporting libraries, helpful community, easy to understand. Excited for 2.0.

Never thought I'd see an article on HN that name drops G.L.O.S.S. - awesome. I always preferred bandcamp to soundcloud/spotify/anything else. Good to see the recognition.

Yes, when you publish an NPM package it grabs anything not ignored by .npmignore or .gitignore, which can include css, a dist folder, etc., quite useful!

I think in that case you can just build a separate express API that talks to the same rethinkdb instance, no? After all, horizon is basically just a front-end driver that wraps rethinkdb changefeeds.

Neither framework requires you to use webpack out of the box. But even VueJS creators offer a big tooling solution (check out vue-cli).

Agreed, and I think a good solution is to build specific services that do the complex things which talk to the same db, and then just use horizon for the reasons you mentioned.

Nicely done! I did a similar thing with the VueJS/horizon.io combo. It's a little rough around the edges - I just wanted to have some sort of scaffold for personal stuff. Link is https://github.com/kylestlb/
