Well, Shanghai has some, Japan is building some, and if this discovery is real, Germany might as well revive their Transrapid project (which built the shanghai one).

See that's exactly the issue why I hate this. You can always circumvent it, worst case with an electron microscope and some acid. So all it really does is prevent the average user from gaining control over their own hardware. And for t

You already can't run modems over the phone network anymore. Modern noise reduction algorithms helpfully remove as much modem data as they can.

If you want a plastic phone with microSD, 3.5mm, IP68 and somewhat current specs, the Sony Xperia lineup is actually offering that. I recently bought an Xperia 10 IV and I'm really happy with it.

> It’s a resolution category, not a specification That's where you're wrong, 2K as a term (just like 4K) originated in the cinema industry, and it's absolutely a specification. DCI Digital Cinema System Specification v1.4.

A typical German water heater, e.g. from stiebel eltron, will be between 15kW and 22kW at three phase 400V, which is obviously too much for a regular outlet. Which is why it's usually wired directly, the same as stoves/ovens tend

Why are you conflating 2K (2048x1080/1920x1080) and 1440p (2560x1440)? They're not even close to the same resolution.

I'm not sure how you'd replace a decklink card with ethernet. The bandwidth just isn't there. Same issue with the TB ports, there's not nearly enough bandwidth for pro AV.

You're absolutely right. Personally, my two most used playback setups cap out at 44.1kHz and 16-bit and that's good enough.

I agree that higher encoding quality can provide the differences you describe, but higher sampling rates (beyond 48kHz, that is) cannot. Personally, I try to acquire all music on CD or as FLAC from e.g. Qobuz or Bandcamp. But I see no reaso

IMAX has only started switching to 4K laser projectors a few years ago, they were one of the last hold outs for 2K projectors (and many IMAX cinemas still use 2K projectors sadly).

Well, 4K is called that because when 1080p became common at home, cinemas switched to DCI 4K and suddenly TV manufacturers had to compete with that, so they branded the closest they could get to DCI 4K as their own "UHD 4K".

You're right, the angular size is the true determining factor. But most people don't have a large enough living room to sit 12' from their TV :) e.g. I've got a 48" UHD TV at 2.5m (8') distance, and a 27"

Tbh, if you're editing, remixing, etc, 32-bit float at higher sample rates obviously make sense. But not for a final delivery, and not for your playback devices. Even when I edit 192kHz 32-bit float audio (e.g. for a slow-motion video

And if you'll edit, remix, and slow the audio down, you might want 96kHz or 192kHz, sure. But for the final delivery, there's no need to ever go beyond 48kHz at 24-bit.
