I will never understand why the USA, while producing so much porn, is so strict with sex. Here prostitution is legal and you can buy sex toys at the drug store.

I always carry a mechanical keyboard (wasd without keypad) and a mouse alongside my notebook, I'm always amazed by the people who can work on notebook keyboards and use a trackpad.

This is a bit off topic, and I love IRC, but I'd love a modern IRC client. Features I'd like: - Inline images and media - html preview - people list, friends, but also an automatic highlight system, when I chat with someone I don&

Yeah, having an IPFS like system handled at the browser level (in the address bar) would solve the name resolving bit without DNS. We could imagine something like this, the full URL is: QmaG4FuMqEBnQNn3C8XJ5bpW8kLs7zq2ZXgHptJHbKDDVx/gi

Yes I understand how ipfs works. But I mean, now we don't have the ability to print an URL that is not dependent on a domain name ipfs or any other. That's why DNS would require an alternative for true persistent and decentralized

I should have added "human readable short persistent url". Like foo.com/xy/github where xy is an identifier as short as possible to avoid collision. And with ipfs you are dependent on the ipfs own domain. To remove domai

A move that gave me the determination to move to open source. It requires some adaptation work, but the softwares are often much more customizable. But I know that some features of photoshop are not found in any open source app, so if you u

This is a bit unrelated, but I think it would be cool to have a decentralized way of making persistent URLs.

Surprisingly, I found coil whine much harder for the ears than fans. I installed an APC UPS under my desk, and there is a slight coil whine that it driving me nuts, while my GPU fans going crazy when I play never bothered me.

About the part "Windows 10 spends about 5 minutes (literally!) identifying a bunch of new devices and adding them to the system", to be fair, Windows can run on a gazillion different configuration, while macOS runs only on a few.

I naively thought modern systems used a battery of lidar (with different wavelengths to provide redundancy, like visible+ir+uv) to create a precise 3d map of the objects around the car. Coupled with cameras for visual awareness this seems l

We could argue that modern static analysis tools and the compiler itself are good at catching a lot of errors, and that high level languages have bugs too. C is a dangerous beast, but with good practices it isn't that dangerous. Of cou

I work with elm now for frontend. It has often been criticized for being too conservative and slow paced in its development. But the result is that code is easier to maintain, libraries have a great quality and most of the time there is onl

I should have been more precise. I'd say elixir makes erlang more accessible and easier to work with, not "better" as they are two different beasts with two different focus.

That is why I love elixir, the power of erlang with a better syntax. Of course elixir is not perfect, but it is really good at making erlang better.
