Same, HN is my goto source when github is down:P We all rumble about how centralized git is bad, then we all go back to it when github is back up again.

Isn't mirroring still a thing? I am not saying this as the old creepy guy (well a bit), but seriously wondering why a registry like npm doesn't have tons of geographicaly spreaded mirrors. Package can easily be signed and mirrored

Beside email and calendar, I use the filesystem extensively and I create "project folders" for everything from software(git) to personal things like (2020-02-08_DaughterRoomBlinds) for the "project" of changing blinds in

I have been using DDG for like ten years, I love it, but I still use google for country specific results. I live in Switzerland and if I want, for example, a toy for my kids, something I want to order locally (for free shipping or the like)

Fish has one of the best auto completion out of the box, I love all you get for free with zero configuration. I used zsh before, which is great, but require so much configuration.

I'm pretty sure some Apple USB had a notch. But I think it wasn't to help to plug it in, I think it was to ensure it was directly plugged into the computer without using a cable extension. But I don't remember well, it's

I don't want to drop ZFS for technical reasons, but I do share some of Linus concerns about licensing.

I don't blame Linus, but I use ZFS a lot. I'll drop ZFS the moment I have an alternative with the same features: - disk management with simple commands that can create raids in any modern configuration - zero cost snapshots - impo

Yeah, I had the same problem, but you can explain why it takes so long to the customer. Another tactic I use often is to cut of features, or simplify them in ways that are subtle to the customer but change a lot in term of development time.

I have been self employed for 20 years. I used to put my work first, and in 2012 I did a serious burnout and nearly died (common virus can make a LOT of damage when you are exhausted). So I changed my view of life. Now I consider myself on

While I use i3 on archlinux, I think elementary OS looks great and is a great alternative for less tech savvy users. I am very grateful to the elementary OS community for it existence. One other alternative could be Cinnamon.

The sanest environment I used for front end development was elm, I can't recommend it enough. And if you don't need offline app, pure server side rendering makes wonder and things live phoenix live view are really good.

There is very little signal on quora, mostly noise, the UI is confusing and it pollutes results, so I cannot agree more. But there are many more websites that should be "removed", instagram, pinterest (basically everything that re
