There's a Core Team reelected each 2 years. Btw it just changed: http://docs.freebsd.org/cgi/getmsg.cgi?fetch=11461+0+/usr/lo... Btw, they have an excellent practice of quarter reports, here's the latest: http://www.freebsd.org/news/stat

You came with an elaborate points, but you seem to forget the main problem that the author seemed to scratch surface of: Smart people, just like other people, have ego. And when they get driven by it, they suck. Now please reread your point

Well I have seen such evidence a couple of times. Some profiling of code using huge library stacks gave really surprising results. I think it's worth considering that there's no such thing as "microsecond spent on few commands" alone. Every

I normally don't post my own writings to HN. Yet, as many people say here in the comments, there seems to be a shortage of tech submissions here, so here it is. This is a quite fresh blog and I have a mental queue of articles summarizing ye

While the FreeBSD people didn't have their momentum to market themselves in a way Linux community had, they still manage to produce better system. The other thing is that most people, even who consider themselves OS hackers, don't need such

Yes and that's why many Java applications esp. in the corporate world are slow , contrary to the common belief. When I say many/most software written in Java is slow, people tend to laugh and direct me to the shootout benchmarks. This is a

Cool idea. It's also refreshing that site doesn't require user creation, for obvious reasons.

Yeah microbenchmarks are cool to stare on when your farm of those jboss instances for another very important project is crawling. Very motivating. Wake up, this is reality.

Yes I know my claim, and I showed you a way to grasp it. "Categorically": that's what you said. Just observe, instead of trying to apriori-tize the world.

Your point is purely rhetoric. Does GNU invite being pitted against its namesake by hardcore oldtime Unix fans? Still, focusing on whether 'NOFOO' name is appropiate or not is quite silly.

Citation is overrated. Today anyone can publish anything and be cited by another anyone. Live in the industry for 15 years or so and observe for yourself. Carefully.

The Java problem is not that JVM is itself slow, but that Java is so inconvenient to use, that people use tons of stacks of libraries to accomplish even simplest things (think dependency injection) that JVM becomes bloated by loading and ca

I guess it's wrong point of view for a hacker. X vs NOX is all about ego, this kind of silly games should be dismissed by a hacker, focusing on technical merits instead.

Don't use it and don't complain then. Btw I actively use SQL since 1997 so I guess I have quite a proficiency. Still my point of readability wins , at least for me. So you see, your argument about readability doesn't hold for some people.
