When MVC is expressed as a composition of functions - whose purpose is data transformation, it is an absurdly simple concept. Only MVC described in object-oriented terms is "hard". view(controller(model0,event0)) = representation

Excited for the release, but disappointed in the embracing of OO programming in Javascript. Object oriented programming is a poor way to express logic and gets away from the beauty of languages like Javascript (and Perl) - functional compos

I like ReactJS, but I think Flux is overhyped. One-way dataflow is much better handled via RxJS or BaconJS and as with Om thru cursors. Writing stores and dispatchers and actions is a poor substitute for FRP.

Not even the same things. I love React, use it everyday, however from a denotional semantic standpoint it is impure. view m0 = r0 view (m1 = handler e0 m0) = r1 view (m2 = handler e1 m1) = r2 This is the essence of MVC. Ma

If you look at the source code of React vs Mercury you might agree with him. Sucks is a strong word, however. He's passionate about this stuff because there is a very simple mathematics to frontend development (both declarative UI and

Actually you are wrong. Follow him and others on twitter and you will see that they are some of the most forward thinking people on these types of frontend technologies. om and elm.are the future, which is functional and immutable. React is

People are really missing the point here. Follow staltz on twitter, he really knows his stuff. React is very good, however it missing a few key things that would make it awesome and more consistent - namely compositional event processing. W

The culture of comfortableness is exactly what Vaclav Havel described in "The Power of the Powerless" Comfortableness is a misnomer. What it is conformity. Havel.correctly identifies this as "post-totalitarian". It is th

I'm a huge fan of ReactJS, however it isn't a perfect or optimal implementation of it's concepts. Having a purely functional frontend, with immutability is key. ReactJS is leaky in it's mix of imperative and declarative

The combination of technologies the author suggests we settle on is absurd. Look at the Elm language or On in Clojurescript for JS frameworks with solid computer science behind them. The only JS frameworks that shouldn't exist are ones

I've been writing software for 20/years, and had I learned the concepts brought forth in these papers years ago, I would have been much better. Hacking is not writing software.

There isn;t and will likely never be any strategy to prevent the conditions that the author discusses. Software is biological in nature, and to take it further, subject to the same laws as everything else, in particular entropy. There is no

The larger issue is the vulnerability of user data. The Sony hack is the state of things to come. As more and more personal data is compromised, faith in services like Facebook and the Internet in general will crater. This doesn't even

Actually that is the point :) The virtual DOM is equivalent to how you do write games. Declarative to imperative. React took its cues from how games are written. The renderer in react targets the DOM. React is a renderer.

True, but Angular reinvents the wheel unnecessarily and at a cost of performance and being difficult to reason about. JavaScript code can be easily written for reuse and composition. When a framework attempts to co-opt that there should be

AngularJS owes it success to an easy onboard that allows a user to easily create a gimmicky two-way binding demo. And then the pain begins. It matters little whether some find it productive, what matters is that the engineering principles i

Glad you mentioned this. Not every SPA has a UX that lends itself to nested controllers. The routers and $scope handcuff you. And sibling views in ui-router don't solve the issue either.

Even if you like the digest loop, why do you need the rest of the framework? Why not just use a lightweight alternative that provides that functionality? The digest loop is highly flawed, as the article describes - it is not performant, and

It's utterly insane. Just as in AngularJS 1.3 they have invented there own expression language which floats around in HTML attributes, thereby eliminating the use of Javascript itself and all it's functional goodness. And worst, t
