There is a significant amount of people stuck on 2.7 due to platform restrictions; quite a few OSes still under support are using 2.7 as their system Python and there's no incentive to upgrade these systems. Even if Python 3 was 10x as

I'd like to point out that the less general the subreddit, and the fewer visitors it has, the better the content (both submissions and comments) is. There are some exceptions, and technical subs are generally better than more mainstrea

Don't you think the first one can be a result of imposter syndrome and not wanting to risk looking like a fool for asking for help? If they feel like they ought to be able to figure it out on their own, asking for help suddenly is a bi

The real issue with the US (and also the Catholic Church) is how underhanded and manipulative they are. They don't launch armies and run around conquering things, but they throw their money and power around to make others do their di

VSCode is roughly halfway between Atom and Sublime. It's still Electron based, and there's no way around that.

I like Raymond Hettinger's idea of one concept per line. Sometimes that means having two or even three functions on a single line, sometimes one.

This is one of my guiding principles too. If I find myself wanting to comment the code to make it clearer or understandable, I refactor the code. The one time I let comments slide is when they document unexpected and unavoidable behavior th

It would be trivial if the language lent itself to trivial solutions and there wasn't a culture of trying to anticipate and catch really messed up error cases that results largely from user errors. In Python I would write ´if num >

I think it's because you never know what you're going to get with JS variables, and from what I've seen there's a strong tendency towards trying to fix or squash input errors to an insane degree within the JS culture. Ju

I think the languages themselves give rise to such code because of the lack of consistency and all the weird quirks everywhere. When you can't even reason about the truthiness of a variable because the language coerces everything, of c

Many stores run a 50/50 setup these days, if they're large enough. That is, half the registers are card only, the other half accept both. I've seen it in Willys, Coop, and ICA.

I also deliberately disregarded the dev builds, since I don't think I'm alone in not wanting to run an unstable/bleeding edge version of a program I work with.

Atom's startup speed was heavily improved in 1.5 for me. I keep checking back every so often to see if it improves and they're steadily working on it. I think by the time 1.7 hits it'll be about on par with VSCode.

If you start with C as your first language you're not really starting out by learning how to program, you're starting out by learning how the computer operates. I'm not saying this is necessarily a bad thing, mind you, but it

It's by far the slowest compared to Sublime Text 3 and Visual Studio Code. VSCode and Atom obviously suffer from being Electron based compared to ST3, so the comparison there isn't exactly fair, but VSCode is noticeably faster to

This is also why I don't mind/actively like significant whitespace. It doesn't matter for my own code because I already write it that way, but it enforces good indenting behavior on others who might otherwise forgo it.
