The only thing that was somewhat hopeful in this piece was the title. It just went downhill from there. There was nothing, absolutely nothing of value that they said. Not a word about improving the customer experience in any concrete way.

I'm on 10.7 right now, with some tweaks to make it more Snow-leopardy. I plan to stick with this OS for as long as possible. Once Apple drops support for my MacBook, I'm buying a ThinkPad and installing eOS on it.

If you take a look at the brilliant success of Minecraft, the games you are talking about may be making a comeback. I miss Zelda as much as you do, but we'll just have to wait. And also get those CoD fanboys to stop speaking for the rest of

Ah, I see. I'm sorry about that, but I don't think that there's a solution to fix Swing font rendering in IntelliJ itself. Unless, of course, you dive into the source code.

Simple. Switch to VIM. Or, just write GTK code from scratch directly in the IDE. It's not too hard. I currently use Swing in Java, all written from scratch - no IDEs to be found. I've also dabbled around with simple GTK+ apps. They aren't a

Tell the person to fuck off. Okay, I may get many downvotes here, but this doesn't seem like the solution to the problem. Rudeness and insults are rudeness and insults. Cursing doesn't help the matter. Inaction is not the solution either,

I couldn't read this. When you are intellectually advanced to the point where sexist jokes simply make you want to rip out the throat of the party saying them, you begin to realize that disrespect for women is not only illogical but very pe

Why don't you try Qt Jambi or GTK+ if Swing on Linux is awful? GTK integrates perfectly with Linux if you're using GNOME. Just a thought.

IIRC, couldn't you run Windows 8 without boot authentication? I believe there was a control panel option for this, and after you turn it off, GRUB should be the only thing you need.

I doubt anyone purchasing a mobile Windows RT RISC machine would be inclined to install Linux on it. In fact, the only devices I can currently think of are Windows RT tablets, which nobody is buying anyhow.

To be honest, the FUD over Secure Boot is really reaching a fever pitch, and for no reason, as well. Just turn it off in the UEFI settings and install as much Linux, BSD, or GNU that you want. It really is not a big deal.

The future of Java went downhill as soon as Oracle bought Sun. I miss Sun. Dearly. They were perhaps the only major IT company with a true heart. And now there's none left. Google? Hell no.

This reminds me of a time when I emailed rms about the entire GNU/Linux naming controversy. I had said that perhaps Linux could officially be the name of the OS, and also that to solve the problem of GNU and the FSF not receiving credit, th

Wait a second. Can the founder even code? It would be particularly impressive if he had written the backend and then hired his team for frontend and design. If all he had was an idea, this is really nothing to marvel at, especially on HN. I

When you have to get a job, you can't simply get an interview with a blank resume. If you want to take the MCAT, you can't just walk in to the exam hall with zero medical knowledge. Why shouldn't the same go for voting? Education is paramou
