There are legal avenues to do this. We already have Arxiv (admittedly not peer reviewed) and I believe that there are some open Wikipedia-style journals in the works as well.

Probably Jobs was right, though I sometimes think of a better world where cloud storage and web apps are decoupled. No need to bother with Google Takeout because the data is already yours. I know that diagrams.net (formerly draw.io) does th

Is this a typical outcome of an open-source project that gains widespread popularity? It's a trend that popular projects get criticism that is too personal. This is a tricky problem. The obvious answer is to be anonymous on GitHub and

With the current proliferation of structured file formats (xml, json, yaml, toml, protobuf, messagepack) I got wondering if there is room for a format based on one of these stack/list based languages that could be easily implemented ev

I was thinking some some subset of a stack-based language, enough to define different data types, eg. arr_name 1 2 3 4 5 array; float_name 5.75 float Sort of like how Clojure or KiCad uses S-expressions to store data. The idea was that like

Somewhat OT, but one of my pet crazy ideas is a Forth-like data file format based on a stack. I've never thought about it enough to say if it's completely stupid or not.

Cool! I'm excited to see more interest in this space after Boar development appears to have been abandoned, and no one is willing to take on converting it into Python 3.x. I have a similar project also in Go (see DupVer elsewhere in th

+1 for mentioning Cambridge. It's the sweet spot for density. Lots of folks have back yards, but it's still possible to walk/bike where you want to go. I think a lot of folks conflate "urban area" with "financi

The impression I get is that this tool has a forensic bent to it. You ask for the code for a paper and Joe grad student with no programming knowledge emails you a zipped folder of R scripts. He just finished his dissertation, is starting a

How would this work in practice? Voters post to a publicly accessible append-only database from a personally owned computer? Can this be implemented on paper ballots?

I agree with you, but package names aren't predictable. I find that an example of installing a package is helpful even for users familiar with use of package managers as it gives context and helps readability. Whenever I see `sudo apt-

Looks cool. If the poster is affiliated with the project, some suggestions: 1. I don't know what I am looking at with the examples. I think that this is an interactive session with the program, but this is not clear. 2. It is also unc

I think you have cherry-picked the roughest and oldest subway systems in cities with relatively high crime rates. While the Paris Metro can be scary, the Singapore MRT system is clean, quiet and boring.

A lot of people are disagreeing with you, but subways are extremely expensive compared buses and only make sense for capitols or very large cities. Public transit must match the city. Mid-sized cities like Nice or Denver will have light rai

The state-of-the-art for backup is deduplicating software (Borg, Restic, Duplicacy). Gripes about Git's UI choices aside, Git was designed around human-readable text files and just doesn't do large binary files well. Sure, there&#
