From the point of view of the company sending the email, this is why marketing and sales _shouldn't_ have separate channels.

I have to admit that I'm a little puzzled whenever this happens on a well-known site. Do not all registrars allow you to set up auto-renew on your domains? I have to explicitly choose not to renew a domain.

I know this is crazy talk; but maybe don't go into debt for Christmas? It happens every year, at the same time. You can plan for it. Open a holiday "club" account at your bank and put $50 or $100 in every month.

That's true, but that statement was in the context of the desire that some people (including, it would seem, the author of the article) have to get rid of the cosmological constant. The only reasons I am aware of that anyone dislikes the c

I won't hold myself out as that much of an expert - cosmology was never my specialty and I haven't been a practicing physicist for a decade - but see my comment: http://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=2006334

Based on little more than this summary of the article, it's not particularly clear to me how this solves the purported problems it's trying to address. First, it appears that this gets rid of the cosmological constant (which some people see

Just wondering... Does anyone actually want to look like that guy on the HST page? I took one look at that and said "this is not the workout routine for me".

Well, you can't actually do an engineering analysis of a rock face, so you're never going to achieve that level of rigor. Placing protections and building anchors is a combination of experience and intuition; observation and analysis techn

The forces involved are considerably more than body weight in a lead fall (potentially tens of feet before you're caught; at one point in the article they mention the possibility of a 70 foot fall). 10 kN (roughly equivalent to 1000kg stat

Well, it wasn't written for you... Probably a good example of how easy it is not to notice the use of jargon if you're familiar with it. I breezed right through the article and it didn't seem particularly technical at all.
