In the non-debug build, the compiler was free to align structs as it saw fit, in the debug build, it was told to pack them really tight, no padding. Why? The only reason I can think of is to save a few precious bytes of disk space.

I worked at a company once where they, too, used raw memory dumps as their file format. The compiler flags telling the compiler how to align structs were different for debug and non-debug builds. So, of course, the first thing I did, was to

While I totally empathize with the poor author who had to suffer through this madness, I thoroughly enjoyed reading this rant. My favorite part was this: PSD is not a good format. PSD is not even a bad format. Calling it such would be

Heh, I use ts(1) on a fairly regular basis. It is a very nice tool, and it even supports multiple job queues via environment variables.

There used to be an add-on (or was it even built-in?) to block loading videos and images unless explicitly requested by the user. I sometimes still miss that, especially on mobile.

I really dislike titles of this form ("I love to do X, and so should you"). It might not be the most rational response, but I intuitively refuse to let some article in some magazine tell me what I should or should not do, let alon

They say it takes one to know one. The question is if that refers to language inventors or murderers. I got 8/10 right, so I guess I had better come up with a programming language pretty soon. ;-)

The oldest device I have actually used to access a web site was a Sun SparcStation 20, built ca. 1992-93. However , at 64MB RAM, accessing the "modern web" would be extremely, painfully slow, at best. In fact, the memory-hunger o

But in Go, case-values must be constants, right? This would make the trick from the referenced source code impossible, I think. (Whether or not that is a good or a bad thing is a question I am deliberately ignoring.)
