You can get a refurbished x220 for $200. It won't be the best laptop ever, but probably enough to learn Linux. Had multiple co-workers going this route and now they are full-time ThinkPad users.

How well does the precision work out of the box? I would prefer to run standard Ubuntu with no modifications or proprietary drivers of possible.

Seriously, you went from osx to Gentoo? It's like going from using computers to designing your own cpus... Just install Ubuntu and be done with it

No need for artificial slow downs when you have Google play services. That thing requires more resources with every release. Jokes aside, I don't think any other than apple does this. For one, android batteries are often larger giving

I think ADR with its simplistic graphics should run on any android (even a "toaster"). But your app seems more demanding, can't you limit it to newer versions of android? Many banking apps for example require users to be on 6

If it looks like a half-loaded web page on a nexus (which is the reference device for the platform) then something is wrong. Please don't take offence, I'm just trying to explain why it did so bad on android. edit: you don't
