What are you assuming the author case is? The article points out that by normal logic these companies are overvalued and so owning their stock is risky. Now that they've taken on all this debt, it's even riskier.

I don't think the big companies will fail, but their stock prices could dramatically drop. I think newer smaller companies like OpenAI and Anthropic could easily fail, as well as a bunch of other AI start ups. Altogether it could mak

I think I'm taking it a step further even and asking that if Watterson decided that he would never merchandise Calvin and Hobbes and then 10 years later saw things differently and changed his mind, would that be an integrity violation?

Oh my gosh, thank you for writing this so that I know I'm not going insane. I keep thinking there's no way things have gotten worse, like maybe I'm miss remembering? But I was pretty sure I wasn't miss remembering

Some interesting discussion here about Bill Watterson and Jim Davis and it makes me wonder about this word, "integrity," that's being used. In my mind, integrity is to be honest and to do what you promise to do (unless we ar

You are correct. Also, copyrights do expire eventually (takes longer than it should, but they still aren't perpetual)

Great works get shared and passed on to others, even without T-shirts and stuffies. Also, the copyright will expire at some point.

Aw man, you just hit me with a wave of nostalgia. Looking back, the Sunday comics were such an indulgence! To just sit on the floor with huge sheets of paper covered in colorful illustrated jokes and enjoy each one slowly. I need to take

I've pondered on this my whole adult life. Are we doing kids wrong with things like Santa Claus, the Easter Bunny, fairy tales, tall tales, etc.? I think not. I think kids come up with their own childish and wrong explanations for t

Using software is not the same as copying the code. Copyright law only covers making and distributing copies of things. It's a subtlety of the law. By default (in the US) you are not permitted to copy someone else's work (with s

Open source copyright license can't actually restrict how you use the code. Clever hack though if the log message really did cause agents to delete code!

Eh, let's just build more natural gas powered data centers. Maybe an LLM will tell us how to solve problems like this I'm joking, but apparently there are influential people who really believe it's a good idea (see: governor
