Honestly, sed -i is so useful that I'd file a feature request if a sed didn't support it.

Orkestrix is nice. I understand you don't want to use LilyPond because it is too complex, but you may want to know that LilyPond comes with a tool to convert from ABC to LilyPond (abc2ly). One could use it to write the music examples in ABC

It's possible but it seems to be a new thing. Some apps are starting to use only one directory (e.g. O'Reilly, Notebooks, etc).

I'm the author of this article. The main problem I found with EPUB and MOBI is how they are implemented in each reader. For instance, kindle 2 doesn't format tables correctly, while kindle 3 does. iBooks has some undocumented bugs that make

Interesting. I agree that using something like Pages or Scrivener (I love Scrivener) can help you to focus on the writing and I wish I could have used them to write my book [1]. However, I'm curious to know how he handled code examples; d

A trick to generate a cycle of fourths or fifths is to multiply a chromatic scale by 5 or 7, respectively: notes_name([n*7 for n in range(0, 12)])

The following solution defines a function to transpose each scale taking advantage of the mathematical properties of notes: def notes_name(numbers): notes = "C C# D D# E F F# G G# A A# B".split() return [notes[(number

But a PDF doesn't have to be A4/Letter. I published a book recently (ebook in PDF, ePub and mobi and paperback) and decided to use 6.69 x 9.61 inches for the PDF. I found that this size looks good on paper and on screen.

One way is to go to the kindle store, choose the kind of book you want (Amazon calls it a "Department") and sort by price. For instance, here are programming books: http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=sr_st?bbn=726697011&qid=1345... It's not

In theory you should be fine but it's hard for me to tell. You could use the book and supplement the things you don't know with Wikipedia (I even recommend a few articles in the book). Have you tried the sample?
