Even LTE is including Vehicle 2 Vehicle (v2v) communication and Vehicle 2 infrastructure (v2x) and so will whatever 5g becomes of course (5g will be the continued evolution of LTE + mmwave physical layer basically)

You're wrong about the cost of the licenses. The architectural license is the most costly one. It comes with a risk to let others make implementations of your ISA ...

Ah never seen dynamic memory allocation written as DMA before. Maybe obvious from the context but DMA really only has one meaning for me :)

You and I can't possibly have the same definition of DMA. It is essential to low latency data communication both in the embedded and server domain.

RTEMS certainly is a real time operating system. It was initially used in missiles and the original meaning is Real Time Executive for Missile Systems. Later adopted for generic military, scientific and space use. I think it is a great open

Of course you can run Debian with 64 MB RAM. I ran Linux on a 200 MHz Pentium with 32 MB for years as my only computer. It was perfectly fine.

No you don't need any reason. You can go to the tax office and use their public computer for example.

It is really an old strategy to handle risky projects. Typically goes by names such as set based development or parallel trials and was for example used in the Manhattan project. I consider it wise strategy when the project is high risk and

Well there are many places where you might find an ARM e.g. baseband chip, power management chip, GPS chip and so on.

The ERC32 + LEON (SPARCv7/8) range of rad hard microprocessors developed under contract from ESA. Non fault tolerant versions of LEON are available as open source VHDL. See www.gaisler.com. Radhard PowerPC are thing of the past I think

A big reason why the fpga companies keep everything secret is to protect themselves against patent lawsuits (exactly as gpu companies). So once again we can see how the patent system is good for innovation....

I hadn't seen the Black Magic Probe for JTAG debugging without the need for OpenOcd (et al). It gives you a GDB remote target directly on probe instead. Quite nice.

The answer to that should be pretty obvious. How many different services relied on internet in 1980? How many will in twenty years? And I'm not sure the issue still is in its infancy. It's becoming a problem and it's stopping

With prioritization one could ensure better quality of services also for OTT voip which would certainly be useful. There will certainly exist more and more services in need of low latency. Why stop innovation in this area by just giving up

Sorry guys but reality is that on a technical level some packets must be treated as higher priority. Think voice communication, for example. It must be prioritized over bulk data transfers. It is already built into LTE. The future holds mor

Pretty ridiculous. Aren't we having problems finding candidates? Why care if they use the most leet irc client or write irc bots? Recruiting people you find on irc in coding related channels I'm all for that. But it doesn't s

You have real time requirements in L2 (MAC) in LTE with e.g. HARQ with 4 ms to provide ack/nack. Might not be so hard to achieve but still real time.

There are real time requirements on the protocol handling so you can't just send "raw" L1 transport blocks up to the AP.

That is not a learning curve though... The "informal" usage stems from people not knowing what they are talking about. No need to perpetuate it if you know better.

A learning curve is something specific. It is the level of knowledge over time. It has nothing to do with driving..

I hate the misuse of the term "steep learning curve". If something has a steep learning curve it actually means you are learning it fast.

No. You are linking to lawful interception documents. That is not handled in the phone or base station but in the core network. You can not use it to track or listen to shut off devices.

The presence of such a mode has never been proven in any commercially available cell phone. Your anecdotal USAF story does not prove anything either. The story in the link has nothing to do with surveillance at the cell phone level. Its abo

Exactly the same experience here. My kids loved the game but constantly ended up in the app store. I removed all versions and explained to them why and that was that ... forgotten.
