How confident are you that memory safety (or lack thereof) is a significant variable in how fast a compiler is?

I think the most relevant thing is that building a simple website can (and should) take milliseconds, not minutes, and that -- quoting from the post: > A brief note: 50 seconds is fine, actually! 50 seconds should actually not be conside

Zig is starting to migrate to custom backends for debug builds (instead of using LLVM) plus incremental compilation. All Zig code is built in a single compilation unit and everything is compiled from scratch every time you change something,

That's a special case for sure, given the new fight for supremacy between the two forks, that said you can see in all those threads antirez bickering with the AWS people over exactly who introduced what.

It works really, really well, in part because it's also capable of tracking where an error is turned into another. And the error return trace ends where the stack trace begins (when an error is turned into a panic) so you don't ev

Depends on the project, the general recommendation is to use metaprogramming like salt: just a pinch to add some flavor. Newcomers sometimes go bonkers with it though.

Zig has on the roadmap the creation of a compiler REPL to power all kinds of code intelligence tools, including LSPs. This item is blocking only on finishing incremental compilation.

That's all fair, it just means that it's a bit too early for you to use Zig then. The project can't come out already at v1 out of thin air, so it's a matter of being patient and waiting for the people working on it to ma

Huh? The whole point of Roc is to let you easily put both imperative and functional code in the same project through Roc's platform system. You get to decide what part of your code should be imperative, and which should be functional.

Zig is a 0.x language for a reason, and that reason is to not have to offer any kind of backward compatibility until main development is complete.

There are a few different ways of implementing interfaces, each with different tradeoffs, so it's not boilerplate :^)
