Thanks for all the advice, since we don't use the blog for a source of revenue we don't have to have ads. I would like to have it customized better, so the next designer for my site I will probably have them customize the blog to match the

Sounds like to me you need to understand your environment and take advantage of the opportunity. If you work for a very cool web development company then learn everything you can while building your own thing on the side.

If you aren't interested that's fine, My start-up wouldn't even qualify for Y-Combinator but that has nothing to do with what they represent. I think its great, you should keep negative thoughts to yourself. Some people won't get anywhere

I am not sure how to answer that question. I know that no optimization was done to it during its build and that some of the pages aren't coded the same when I do a Dreamweaver / view source.
