Worth mentioning that the whole git history is gone, the Rust code does not have any human crafted history, which entirely defeat its purpose. Also, with a million line of code unreviewed by humans, there could be some sneaky backdoor in it

Using a programming language is not the same as using a service. I can't seen any reason for this to be "the biggest issue".

It's a really cute idea. Could see how many kid stories you would be able to make and read on a tablet.

The DNS was mostly an example, I'm very ignorant regarding the network stack, but I would naively believe that the administrator of the internet router would have the ability to filter a lot of content without the client to be able to

This is such hackernews comment. Not everything is about money. I can use Pgbackrest in my side project which does not generate any money. Maybe my side project is another open source project where no one give me money, but I'm still c

Penalizing people is slow and does not scale as much as AI creations that can be mass produced.

Sorry for the significantly unrelated comment: Does anyone know if there is any limitation to create a "https-local://" or something like that, which guarantee that things are only downloaded, and never uploaded?

I'm sad to see this article being so upvoted while being kind of empty. The real content could fit in a comment.

I wish we could flag some posts (like as "tangential") instead of this archaic upvote/downvote. And obviously a way to filter in/out those flags.

Another imprecise analogy would be to see traits as operators. You decide to define the operator "serde::serialize" for "MyType" but then your are stuck because you can't override or select different operators for &

8GB is aweful. If you don't do a single task. But nice for Apple. Millions of replacement on the Neo 16GB release next year I guess.

The funny thing is that it would do the same for double the price. You need to spend a ridiculous amount of time on research because the producer itself is selling very different product (very different quality) from a year to another. I wi

I'm pretty sure you can adjust the logic from "no one else" to "very very very few" and the logic just works the same...

A comment from 2021: > Unfortunately, because the code that chardet was originally based on was LGPL, we don't really have a way to relicense it. Believe me, if we could, I would. There was talk of chardet being added to the standar

This is not unprecedented, TCC relicensed part of its code by being approved by all authors: https://repo.or.cz/tinycc.git/blob/3d963aebcd533da278f086a3e... The interesting part is that the original author is agai

Yeah that's the kind of thing I'm talking about. Even when you don't care about being cross-platform, you still need to rely on specific routines instead of having the most low level `ut8fopen(buffer, len, mode);` My point is

The mental overhead is pretty significant. You need to do weird string operations, you have certainly a class somewhere that needs to append a zero to then end of a buffer, and exclusively use the class for thw filename. You can't just

I'm not sure I agree with "impossible to change". It's 2026, to this date I cannot use standard library/api, to open a file with utf-8 filename without a null terminating string. When you want to talk to the OS you
