Any good startup should demand a lot. Far more than established companies. In return, they give equity that can, potentially, be worth nice chunk of money. Which is something established companies won't do. If you want money and cushy jo

1st rule: You do not talk about bootstrapping. 2nd rule: You DO NOT talk about bootstrapping. 3rd rule: If someone mentions real-time or social networking, it's over. 4th rule: Only two founders to a startup 5th rule: One startup at a time

We're in the process of setting up an account with them. So far, their customer service has been stellar. And their API is supposed to be the best in the industry.

Forget all those options. If you can tap into that person's passion with what you're doing, hire them. Besides, there is no such thing as long-term employment anymore. A talented person could create immense value for you in a month that'l

I like that last part about Max from Hive7. He's a real quality guy and will probably be one of True's best investments.

Regardless of their ambitions, it's fun for me to see companies in different verticals go after each other. That's where interesting innovation can happen. This is far better to read than another "Google search-engine killer."

Quite honestly, as someone who's involved in the Angel world, easiest way to lose money - invest in startups. You have to invest in at least 20 to get an idea of what you're doing. Just structuring a deal so you don't get washed out later

Not easy. Connections, basically. Better yet, build something on your own that gets traction. Then Angels / VCs will come knocking on your door. He's the top Angel in the valley. It's like asking, how do I pitch "Speilberg" when I'm in

Personally, when it comes to investing, I'd rather be a contrarian. Out of these 40 to 50 investments, most will not fly unless they get acquired. "Hope we get bought, fingers crossed" is not a business model. It only works if you invest

Wonder what we'll be saying down the road...."in my day, we didn't have these fancy neuron teleporters. If you wanted to mash up, you'd use Twitter or Google Wave." Some young hacker would look up, scratch his head, ask, "What's Google?"

Agreed. With all that's going on, it's not the government's job to regulate click fraud. It's up to publishers and advertisers to figure it out.

In the last few months, I've been to Angelconf, Demo Day, Codecon, and now off to Adtech. I liked this post because I used to just go to conferences and "see what happened." But, when I go with an idea of what I want to get out of it (whe

Here's my rule for all interactions: provide value. Usually it is knowledge, connecting the right people, whatever. But provide value. Don't expect anything in return. The irony is, it'll come back to you in ways that'll blow your socks

Just do it. Being in limbo, going back and forth, is the worst place to be. What's the worst that'll happen? You'll have gone for it. That's more than most people can say. It's really that simple. Now get off Hacker News and build that

Listen, it's a lot simpler than this. You took an action: honesty. Your boss responded: icy. Your next action should be: what do I do with this response? If it's sitting and doing nothing in your office, then you will bear the fruits of

Way too focused on pretty design. Give me a simple, clean site with a single big call-to-action button. In the end, detail to what converts users matters, not typography or richness of color.

You nailed it: "It seems much better to hire awesome advisers than to replace founders. Good founders also know when it is time to give up the reins as well."
