I like C, have a probably unhealthy relationship with C++ where I am amazed by what it can do and then get unrealistic expectations it keeps failing to fulfill, and don't really like Java. You know Julia Ecklar's song where she sa

I'm pretty sure this is a roughly accurate breakdown of AutoCAD's cost structure 34 years ago. How long have you been in the business, and what was the highest-sticker-price software you were selling?

I believe he dedicated Speak Freely to the public domain so that anyone can use it for anything. Even more generous than you imply.

Maybe I don't know what I'm doing, but I rarely get performance within an order of magnitude of single-threaded C from V8. In those other systems I usually do, unless you count Java's startup time.

The "Hot Diodes!" paper from 02019 that de Decker cited ( https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S235272851... ) is promising. It points out that PV module voltage is nearly constant over

(02015) but both HP and IBM seem to be alive and well 10 years later, even if their products are dog vomit. This phrase "confusing the scoreboard with the game" is golden! IL14 is a lot better than Cringely's commentary on it

Apt has been painfully slow since I started using Debian last millennium, but I suspect it's not because it uses a lot of CPU, or it would be snappy by now.

I think Fil-C is for people who are using software that has already been written, not for people who are trying to pick what language to write new software in. A substantial amount of software has, after all, already been written.

Not sure, JPEGs were fine in Netscape on my 60 MIPS 5x86-133 29 years ago. Mortification of the flesh to do penance for the sin of humanity tasting the forbidden fruit of knowledge may be their main target.
