I'm 99% sure, the author has never done any completed / published non trivial game... .. because doing lock-free programming is least of problems when creating games.

computers (IC's) are both analog and digital. same goes for the brain. imo all the "analogies" are authors imagination and will only distract him from understanding how brain really works.

it's bit like- if i have source code of Linux (think DNA), can I build a machine running Linux? (think cell). no- you cant, you need to have machine that can run the code. ie. "software" without "machine" to run it

One should always think of a C as high level Assembler. Not less, not more. Everything else (parallel programming, threading, ...), are "higher" level paradigms, where C "robustness" is more of an obstruction, not a help

Maybe instead of comparing to cookbooks we should compare an API's to technical standards? (think ISO)

Imo, making API's copyrightable will only make things worse for all the US based software companies, sort of gain dollar, loose hundred situation, as it'll open a whole new front in an already existing software patent wars. Maybe

It's strange that there's little of comparison of an API to a standard. (Think like ISO standards) as API is not a program itself, it's a rule-set how two programms can interoperate. Patenting API's imo is like patenting
