This is an old article (2023 yea I know that's recent but it's still out of date) and the crisis in cosmology (AKA dark matter) came back harder than ever with subsequent studies: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T1

What’s always crazy to me is that so many people know the words “dark matter” and don’t realize it’s basically a placeholder phrase.

I saw someone do the math recently. There were only ~21 days when they actually had all members in congress. It was a majority in name only.

I’m in the process of reading this article, but I recently read Zero: The Biography of a Dangerous Idea by Charles Seife (which is a great book) so I feel like I can explain: The Greeks were ideologically opposed to the number zero. Aristot

This is the difference between philosophy and number systems. The Babylonian number system was, by far, the superior system to the Greek number system (which they inherited from the Egyptians.) This is something even the Greeks acknowledged

I just finished Zero: A Biography of a Dangerous Idea. One of the best books I’ve read in a while. Really gives a great story about the evolving history of thought.

I’m so tired of people talking about AI like this but only looking at it from the perspective of a consumer. AI is so big because it allows people like me, who only dabble in code, to automate with very little learning curve. My life has be

I can’t agree with this article: “Instead, Martel echoes the great aesthete himself, Oscar Wilde, in his serene dictum that all art is perfectly useless. And yet, as Martel writes, “It is precisely the absence of political and moral intere

My mom read Grimms to me when I was a kid. I loved it. We also read D'Aulaires' Book of Greek Myths, which I remember being pretty wild.

Yea IMO these LLMs seem more similar to a subconscious mind than a conscious mind. Jung would probably call it an "antinomy": it's goal is not to represent the truth, but to represent the totality of possible answers.

I’ve been wanting an obsidian plug-in that deprecates text and it doesn’t exist. Simple idea: mark entire notes or portions of notes as “deprecated” and then have a toggle button that shows/hides deprecated text.

In professional settings, people care only about complexity. In the informal media world, people care only about simplicity. The most simple narrative wins out every time. We’re in a world of extremes.

Huh? All I’m saying is that crypto doesn’t create scarcity for no reason. It creates scarcity provided you need a ledger system where only certain transactions are valid. Any ledger system inherently creates scarcity
